Smile F30 : How to achieve depth blur effect

Hi all, new to this forum and digital photography.
Just purchased my F30 today

been playing around with it for few hours now, but failed to achieve the effect of depth(blur) that shows crisp focus with blurred surrounding.
Any expert and pro can teach me how to achieve that?

thanks alot in advance guys

go closer to the subject, at max zoom, biggest aperture (smallest f number), to get it? =)

set it to Aperture-priority mode, then use something like F2.8...ie. select the biggest u can get at ur elected zoom-range.

While the F30 has a larger sensor than most P&S cameras, it may not be large enough to achieve the shallow (depth of field) DOF which you require.

The other things which matter are:
focal length (this should be long i.e. more zoom)
aperture (this should be open/low i.e. f/2.8 rather than f/5.6)
background (the background should be as far away as possible from the subject)
focal point (make sure you're focussing on the subject itself)

The F30 is known more for excellent high ISO shots.

Yes, the background should be as far as possible from the focus subject...

And shud use zoom to the max (analogy of the eye being close to a subject and the rest of the field becomes blur). But i heard F30 has onli f/5.6 when at full zoom, so be careful of that.
