Default Transcend CF cards

Transcend CF cards (2Gb, 4Gb)...
Where do they sell them? Are they with lifetime warranty like Sandisk and Kingston?

Thanks... They seems faster than the Ultra II...
How does the 4Gb compare, in price, compatibility and performance?

Got the 4GB at about $120+ at the recent Comex ... Thought it was a tad slower than my 1GB Ultra II, otherwise it was just great for the price.

Cheers.

Got a 2GB at Comex. Valued for money, cheaper and faster then Kingston Elite pro. Also come with lifetime warranty.

Slower in the sense of reading, writing, or...? It is understand that it takes longer time to read a 4GB card than 1GB card imho

I'm not worried about reading, but rather about writing... still using a USB 1.1 flash reader.
I typically take in RAW so write speed is a concern because DSLR buffer not big enough..

Maybe you should also get a USB2.0 writer.

Correction... I should get a new computer instead.

Not the writer / read problem... it's the built-in 1.1 root hub that comes w/ my motherboard.
Still using a P4 1.8 Ghz...

Anway, I can bear with the transfer speed. Can't bear the slow mo writing speed thats all.

Cateyes says Transcend 120X seems a tad slower than his 80X Sandisk Ultra 2 while Hoky says seems faster... ???

It will be very disappointing if the 120X Transcend is slower than 80X Ultra 2.

Here are summary of data posted from:
http://www.transcendusa.com and http://www.sandisk.com

Transcend
- Ultra-performance 120X high-speed with dual channel flash interface
- Read 20 MB/sec, Write 18 MB/sec

Sandisk Ultra II
Minimum of 10MB/second** sequential read speed for ultra-fast image viewing and data transfer
Minimum 9MB/second** sequential write speed lets you capture large image files faster

Frankly speaking, I don't know the performance in reality. Although they may spec it that way, but it may not perform exactly. Marketing always twist the facts a little.

Hi Hoky, wrx ...

I made a quick check again today and indeed (at least on my KM5D), writing is slightly slower on the 4GB 120x Transcend compared to the 1GB Ultra II.

As for reading, cannot see any noticeable differences, both are fast enough for me.

Is it a fair comparison since it is 4GB vs 1GB? Anyway, overall performance of the Transcend is fine for me given the reasonably low price.

Cheers.

Just to clarify further ...

My simple test (sorry not a pro test hor!) ...

I set to continuous burst mode, squeeze shutter, after the buffer is full, writing of the subsequent frames to the card is where the difference is noticable between the two makes.

Cheers.

That's good enough for me.
I'm also using a 1 Gb Ultra II... Not enough though... Planning to get a 4 Gb Transcend.
What's the lag like for the transcend?

I'm in the market for a couple of 4GB cards. Any idea how much they are now, and where to get them?

Thanks.

Transcend 120x selling from $120 ~ $140.

Hi Hoky,

Actually I was a bit off when I use the word "slightly": eg if the lag is 0.5 sec with the Ultra II, then it is about 0.75 to 1 sec for the 120X Transcend.

Cheers.
