minolta has an oem version of this lens. some difference in body styling but the optics are more or less the same. very popular wide-angle lens for A-mount users, as well as canon and nikon users who don't wanna fork out for the L and AF-S lenses in that range.

Yup, KM 17-35 is very sharp. Good buy too.

This lens has a tendency to misfocus when the contrast is poor... that's my experience on my 7D... it may be the camera body... I dun have this problem with a Tamron 24-135SP though...

you will hunger for a wide angle soon enough hehe.....get tamron/minolta 17-35, or tamron 11-18, or sigma 10-20...you know you want it...soon...hehe

Yes it's a great lens... unfortunately it is just not wide enough... it's about 36mm on the 7D... that's no good when shooting group pictures... not versatile enough as when I used it on the Dynax 7 film body... it was really a sweet compact lens... and it's very heavy too for it's price - pretty good quality glass I must say...

Hmm. since it is the same optic (OEM version) with KM version, i believe it may backfocus at 17mm wide. Can anyone with this lens tell us whether it is same backfocus for Tamron version too? Thanks.
