??? joining police or air force, then why you look for army regulars?

IT as a hot market was like 5 years ago... not to be insulting.. but the market is pretty saturated already....

maybe join police dept for internet crimes? i'm sure they've a dept like tht to handle & prevent & chase internet criminals.
And it should be a growing segment of the market too, given the security concern nowadays.

oops sorry! my mistake. not army of course. looking for police or airforce regular. anyone serving in police or airforce? what post are u in? care to share ur experience?

ya, i find the IT market very saturated. but tat's not the only reason. in terms of IT, programming is not my forte. Im more into designing and interactive stuff. but... i know my limits la. whenever i compare my frens project and mine.... i feel inferior. cos my lecturer once told me tat, almost anyone can master programming if they're hardworking and conscientious (and if they have the interest), but not everybody can master the design and interactive part because you...sort of need a little talent.

my current neighbours ( 2 of them ) signed on as air force senior technician, and I thought by following them.. you know.. at least if anything duno can ask them. but the thing is, they're engineering diploma holder, not IT.

So thought of coming here and asking you guys...

Whatever you do, just don't come back after the contract and be as KL as most of them.

    Hi

SAF will ONLY take ENGINEERING Diplomas because of the combat Tech Scheme. I'm in the navy and I can tell you that they are not taking in anymore non-engineering recruits.

Either you complete your NS and join the DSTA or you join the police force. then again, police force pay much lesser than SAF.

Think about it first. To sign on as an officer with just a diploma, you are courting for trouble esp in the navy cos every other officers are SCHOLARS.

The best deal is not to sign on. You will never find happiness or satisfaction in life...

    1) I never tell people to sign or not to sign as that is theor decision. some people hate it some people don't.

    2) He's concerned about Police or Airforce lah... not Navy.

Air Force... hmm.. heard of the UAV?

I was from that unit during my NSF days, but it's pretty much a regulars' unit. The job scope is pretty interesting, about aerial reconnaissance. Get to go overseas pretty often for detachments as well. It's a job where it is mentally stressful rather than physically and you work in cold air-con situations. If that's what you are looking for. However, it would be good to have good eyesight. And of course, being an officer would be better, cause the specialists are always tekan by the officers. That's about all I can disclose about my unit, or else kena charged.

    Hope that helps.

As an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems Specialist (UAVSS), you'll be both a combatant and a technician, as you are not only trained to operate the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for surveillance, you are also required to maintain, troubleshoot and service the entire UAV system including its airframe and engine components.

    Requirements:
    Academically, you should have:

A relevant Engineering Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer , Communication, Telecommunications or Mechatronics; OR ITC in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.

    The 'Relevant Engineering Diploma in........Computer...

Computer in this case got include Diploma in IT?

DSTA stands for Defense Science and Technology Agency. They do a variety of things... medical research... military research.... project (like construction of camps) you name it they do it... kinda like ST in a way..

I guessed should be fine... I known of my campmates who are regulars possessing ITE certs, so I guessed any diploma would do.

Yes, they are trying to make all UAVSS become both proficient in Operations and Technician work as well, so it might be a bit stressful for UAVSS, as they need to clock both Ops hours as well as Tech work. I really doubt prior knowledge of engineering is necessary cause everything is taught from scratch. I think...

Hmmm I was wrong about my previous post, being a UAVSS might be better than a WSO(UAV) as UAVSS has additional vocational (flying) allowance.

I hope there isn't any MP reading this... Anyway not trying to sell UAV to ya too hahaha coz I have nothing (well almost...) to do with SAF now...

Hope that helps in your decisions.

    Cheers.

Some of my own thoughts here.
I also hold a diploma in CS (IT equivalent or similar)

It's true that the IT market now is saturated...
Companies are looking for engineering pple more than IT pple.
However there's still a trickle of demand for IT people, be it in the public sector or private sector.

As for me, I would be doing a degree and then moving on to maybe business management or some other fields.

But seriously, IT diploma can't get you very far in the public service unless u do something different, like WSO or.. some other types of specalists.

    My 2 cents worth.
