    Default Earphones, Earbuds and Headphones

Another of my curiosities...during my many trips to Best Denki where my friend previously hunted for a hi-fi system, I came across a brand called Audio Technica under the headphones section. All their products are packaged in an unassuming manner...not colourful or eyecatching, but their prices surprise me.

I've never heard of this brand before but their products aren't exactly the budget sort. Has anyone had any experience with this brand or know if it's any good?

good quality @ low price... i once compared one earphones ATH-EQ88 with the creative (dono what model) earphones as well... the sound beat creative yet at a slightly lower price ($28 vs $35). Creative one sound a little flat (not sure of their more expensive ones )

Wow...that's mighty fast. Thanks, +evenstar and ExplorerZ. Currently I'm still using the Koss The Plug earbuds that I bought around 5 years ago in Australia for around A$50. Still working well, only that one side sounds a little muffled because a problem with my computer caused one side to overheat and nearly destroyed that side entirely.

Definitely don't mind buying new headphones, but just need to know what to get. So I gather that Audio Technica is a good value brand?

Not too sure about this one either and will be interested to know. Although I am already confused enough with the number of brands being offered at a single shop. And I can't read the specs behind in an objective manner. Personally I still stick to the earbud kind...especially the ones that seal the ear canal and isolate it from the surroundings. Sound is much better, and I don't have to hear all the other noise around me.

Obviously, Audio Technica is a better brand coming from a company which specialises in audio equipment while Creative makes IT products. For very good headphones, Koss and Sennheiser offer some of the best in the market.

Check out this Singapore based store, got lots of selections there http://www.bluetin.com/stores/singapore/shop.html . I've got a decent price Koss KSC75 , very satisfied with it, highly recommended from me. If money is no object go for Audio Technica AD900

Audio Technica is one of the more reputable brands in the market. It, with brands like sennheiser, akg, shure gives high quality sound due to the years of experience they have. FYI creative uses sennheiser headphones for its x-fi sound card demos .

Heheh...I am clueless on them anyway. Had never heard of them until the day I actually saw the products on sale. Was considering taking a chance on their products, but it's better to confirm first.

Koss and Sennheiser should be pretty safe buys I guess. After all, I love my own Koss headphones, although they're aged. I'm happy to have bought it over the $120 Sony earbud ones I saw at the same shop.

Yes. Logically the bass should be stronger because the driver is bigger. Unfortunately I always worry that most of the power is lost because of interference by external noise. The ones that plug straight into the ear deliver most of their sound straight in.

Never heard of AKG or Shure for that matter. Wow, I never knew AT had a reputation.

Yes, Shure, AKG Acoustics, Seinnheiser and Koss are reputable brand in audio products including headphones. I used to use Shure and AKG turntable cartridges during those pre-CD days. Shure (from USA) and AKG (from Austria) also make some of the best professional microphone in the world.

Thanks. I'll definitely look it up. In the past, brands such as Grado (?) said to be good as well, if I remember correctly. Hope to find a pair of headphones that's not necessarily cheap (ie. sub $100), but it must be good value for money.

Yes, sometimes things in this world are strange...it's the good things that disappear earlier. They just don't make them anymore. But the sound is the thing that really matters in the end I guess.
