Er, pardon the dumb question, but how to use, ah?
I managed to tag my image with GPS info, so what's next? How to view where I've shot on a map? What map? The instructions not very helpful.

Just go back to ur picture motion browser, right click and select map view.
![]() Beware that only the satelite view works for SG, and not all areas can be zoomed in... pity. |

I dunno how much it is. I got it as a freebie when I bought the A100. I think it's $199? Or 299? I am not so sure. Maybe sony's site have it?
It's just a fun piece of gadget that I think most people can do without. Still it's interesting and handy for overseas trip. |

Just found out why I couldn't access maps. I didn't install the upgrade software for the Motion Picture Browser! Duhhhh...!
I think it's valued at $199, but currently not for sale. I really wouldn't pay that price for such a gadget. Maybe just $50 for the novelty... But I should think it'd be excellent for travellers.

You have the option to tag your images with GPS info or not.

Right ok... so if you choose not to tag your images with GPS info the device is basically useless? or it has any other usage? Hart |

Yup, other than what's been described here, the device serves no other purpose. And for $199 RRP, it really is quite a waste of money. ![]() I have read somewhere that there are attempts to hack it to make it compatible with some PDA-GPS systems though...

Hi everyone. My first post here. Great to be part of this community.
This device is sold in the UK for Sterling Pound 99.99 equivalent to about SGD300. The e-catalogue was printed on 6 October 2006, so you can know relatively how new the product is. I have one too when I bought the Sony A-100. Have not give it a go as yet. Would be a great device for surveyors, estate agents, etc., wouldn't it? http://shop.sonystyle-europe.com/Son...ternal&ss=home |

it would be nice if sony comes out with a firmware update for 7D and 5D to support this GPS thingy.

Don't think that's needed. The integration of the GPS info is done in the Picture Motion Browser. There is nothing to set in the A-100 to use this GPS device.

hmm........i think i still blur at how it works. does the GPS tracks the user at intervals then matches the time of the photo taken to its location, or does it just save the location only when it detects the shutter released?

Both the GPS device and the camera work seperately. You need to switch on the GPS device "manually" to log the location where you are shooting. Once you are done, you need to remember to switch it off "manually". If you forget, it will continue to log until memory is full.
IMHO, sound great on the surface but too little integration between the camera and the GPS to make it work seemlessly together. With SONY know how in electronic wait for them to shrink it and put it directly in the camera, that will be great. A review of GPS-CS1 ... http://scilib.typepad.com/science_li...iew_of_th.html
