Default I will be waiting for you at SBWR. Ha! Ha! Ha!

As part of an Earthwatch project, a few volunteers and myself were at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (SBWR) to introduce nature to some children this morning. As we arrived earlier, I decided to take a walk on the main bridge. I was surprised to find this crocodile sun tanning on the shore. It must have been at least 2m long! As my main purpose at SBWR was to do guiding, I carried minimum photographic gear for situation like this. Just a record shot, hope to share it with you.

Cheers!

Thanks!

Yes, I have seen a smaller croc before. I heard that at one time, 3 crocs were spotted in SBWR (in different locations). So far, I have only seen one on a single trip.

Thanks for the comments and interest in the croc. The picture was taken yesterday in the morning. Once, crocs were rarely seen in SBWR. Since a few months back, this croc seems to find its place near the main bridge. Most of the time it is in the water (but you could still see it). Yesterday was the first time I saw it on land. Of course some days, it may not be there.

I believe it has to do with the success of SBWR as a nature reserve. Even crocs are making SBWR their home. Hopefully, the same applies to the sea otters and other creatures.

Don’t despair. This croc was recruited to be the guardian of SBWR as poachers were sighted in the vicinity. If you don’t see it, it could be on leave or on time off. It may also have camouflage itself so well that spotting it can be difficult. Just kidding!

On a serious note, I think it is easier to spot it now than a few years ago. Visit SBWR more often, I believe you will be able to spot it soon. Good luck and let me know if you managed to see it. It is such a beautiful beast!

NightZ88,

On your queries regarding the equipment used. I was using a Nikon D2X and AFS300mmf/4D. I did not bring my tripod or longer lenses (as this was not meant to be a photography trip for me). The lighting was low. For lower angle perspective, I proned on the bridge and photographed through the holes. Most of the shots are blurred naturally. The final image was cropped.

Okay, here's a SBWR snake that found me when I was there a while back.

Nice catch, SK.

Not sure if this fellow is named Bob, I know one of the crocs at SBWR was christened with the name Bob.

I haven't found out its name. As I am not as brave as you, I shot this at the full range of my FZ10/LTZ10 combo (which is roughly at 8ft distance), backed off and took another route without being "introduced".

Now I finally get it. You are referring to the guy who took chances with wild creatures once too often.
