Default Is Canon S3 IS capable of IR?

Has anyone tried if the PowerShot S3 IS is capable of IR?

Also, I read from a sticky thread that the 28-135mm IS USM is ok for IR. No hot-spots at all?

Has anyone tried S3 IS for infra-red photography? Any hot spots?

I handheld my Hoya R72 on my friends S3IS and you can see IR. Never tried to take a photo though. Will try it out if I meet him on a nice sunny day.

Again, has anyone tried infra-red photography with their S3 IS using R72? Any hotspots?

I do not think anyone here has tried IR with the S3 IS. But in the stickies the S1 IS and the S2 IS are listed as IR capable with color. So it may be worth to borrow a R72 to try out.

S2 and S3 have the same lens. So far, I have yet to notice any hotspots.

Yes, I did notice that the S1 IS and S2 IS are listed as IR-capable. However, not the S3 IS.

I had my suspicions that the S3 IS may have a similar optical design to S2 IS but can't confirm. I don't have S3 IS but considering to buy it. I already have R72.

Can I assume that you have tried S3 IS?

No, I have not tried using the S3 IS for IR so I won't be able to confirm.

The biggest difference in the S2IS & S3IS is the sensor. Its the same body, same lens. So far, no noticable hotspots when I shoot IR with my S2. I will try out IR on my friends S3IS, if I get a chance to meet him on a sunny day. I have a r72, so will be able to tell if you can use it.
