Hi everyone - finally bought my DSLR after months of reviewing and consideration of other options. I have a question - I still have many lenses left from my OM-4 days - how easy is it to get an adaptor for the OM lenses. Do I have to pay for it or will Olympus provide it free.
Thanks |

It's as easy as going to a store and saying you want to order it or ordering it over the internet, and you will have to pay for it (unless the store has a contest where you can win your purchase).
Olympus America did provide it for free to those who were early North American adopters to the E-1 and the E-300, but they stopped that a year ago. |

you can buy the adapter from oly directly. they used to give it free when u show them ur OM lens during the time of the e300 and then e1. |

Welcome OperaUser!
I also left the "dark ages of film" a few months ago and removed the batteries from my old OM2n forever(?) or at least I thought was forever. Regarding the "dark ages of film", well it is just a joke, in many ways I still think film is better, especially now that I know the E-500 (or any other camera) does not have a real TTL flash or something like the TTL OTF my OM2n has. I miss that part, but on the other hand, it is my first AF camera (if I exclude my two P&S film cameras) and regardless of what ppl say about being slow in AF and bad in low light, compared to manual focus with OM2n it is just great, even if the VF is tiny on the E-500 compared to OM2n. So, I am sure you will be happy with your camera too. As for the MF-1, the OM converter, what I hear it is better to get an expensive original than a cheap copy. The quality says to be better, but I only have experience on the original. That works fine but I think unless you have large tele and many other stuff like bellow or extension tubes, lense reverser and stuff like that it is not worth the money. I think the more modern ZD lenses beat all the old OMs, especially if you consider you have to focus manually and set the aperture manually. But it is a good to have gadget. I have a Tokina 70-210mm OM zoom and Tokina 2xTC plus a Soligor 2xTC and also extension tubes and reverser ring for macro, so I have used the MF-1 quite often. It works fine. Manual focus is not as easy as on the OM2n but so far I had no problems. I also have some other OM lenses but I hardly use any of them except the 50mm which I have used for macro. |

Thanks for all the info. I notice quite a number of sellers over eBay offering the 4/3 adapter. A lot cheaper too. Does anyone have any experience with them? If the results from the zuiko lenses are not so good - do we really need the quality associated with the MF-1. I hate to imagine the margin they are making with these adapters. They probably OEMed it out to the same guys selling over the internet. Oh well.. maybe I'm a cynic.
Which are the must have accessories - there are many and the originals are not cheap. Many thanks again for the warm welcome and hopefully I will learn to master the camera soon. ![]() |

Welcome all. I consider the E-500 one of the best entry level models out there for the price. Excellent choice.

Do a search and look for the older thread. This has been discussed for a long time. |

not sure about others...due to "limited" lenes that available from 3 party or used market, u will spend less time n also think b4 u invest in any additional lense...and spend time take photo instead.. ![]() |

agree! too much choices also headache. btw, in terms of range oly got it covered. 7-300mm (oly glass) for longer reach get the sigma one. so i dont see much limited choice by joining the oly camp. and one thing to note... ZDs are digital glasses. firmware upgradable. but i think the most impt thing is the colour/output that will appeal to u .. that is to say the output from the camera with as little editing as possible. ![]() |

The one at audio house offers 2 lens leh, its a little tempting but only 5pcs are offered. Dunno if its a marketing scam cos they might tell me i am the 6th buyer when i am there. -___-"
