Went Zoo on last Sun with F30.
Back home plug my xD card into the card reader and able to read the card and see all pic. Then on next day, I plug the card into the reader again and it coludn't read the xD card. Put back into the F30 and to my horror, it show "Card Not Initialized". I quickly tried using Lexar Image Rescure2 and manage to retrieve back all the pictures. Format the card in F30 and all back to normal. Yesterday again, same thing happened. On F30 and it show "Card Not Initialized" again. Hopefully not the cam fault or thr card falut.. as stated in the manual.. ![]() |

So sorry, I am too new to this also, I just know they have these different xD cards, why? I dunno. When I bought the camera the salesman told me that they gave me a better Olympus card can do Panorama, I asked why Fujifilm one cannot is it? can't remember what he answered but I didn't care at the time as was too engross with the camera playing with it as I walked out the store. Paiseh can't answer you properly leh. ../azul123 |

Was just asking someone about the M and H cards and he suspects it's got to do with the write speed, H being possibly faster.
Which will mean that there's a price difference between the 2 types - haha maybe someone can help enlighten us? Mine's an M. And I've just removed the card from its packaging and will probably not be able to bring it back for an exchange! And yes, I agree that Olympus xD cards are unlikely to have anything to do with your ability to take panoramas. Good news is that there're plenty of decent freeware that can do the job.Last edited by padme; 28th September 2006 at 11:28 PM. |

M-Type is using a Multi Level Cell architecture, but turns out it is the slowest among all types, slower than the normal type cards. But now this type have 2GB. And yes, I also heard that Olympus xD cards (H?) are the only ones to support Olympus' panoramic function or "picture effects", but I not very sure. ![]() Threadstarter, I think you may want to buy newer type of card-reader for the transfering of photos. Was told that these new cards are incompatible with some older card readers, and might have some 'bad effects' on the cards. |

I faced same problem, and even worse...
I itchy hand , go and format my H-type 1 G xd card (fujifilm) using my card reader and after that, the xd card cannot be used anymore (error message showed). No matter how I did (eg, format using my E900 Fujifilm digital camera, using other card reader to format etc ), still cannot "rescue" the 1G xd card. At the end I have to buy another 512 mb xd card... Painful lesson to learn.. ![]() |

Last Sunday, I saved pics onto my 256mb xD card using a card reader, total of over 50 pics for developing.
Upon arriving at the shop, it can't be read. Tried reading using printing booth, card reader, camera, only knows there's data but can't be read. Wasted my long long trip to shop. Lesson learnt from using xD 1. Direct transfer from camera. Troublesome but some images transfered previously using card reader, some images were corrupted. 2. If want to save images to print, use other cards like CF or SD, or even thumbdrive. Forget using xD. |

I've had the f30 since july and from day1 transferred using a cardreader (the Mini - similar to the one sold at eastgear for 35 - but i got it for 28 elsewhere) - happy to report that not one file have been lost/corrupted, and mind u I did this in/out almost daily. However I am careful to do deleting/formatting ONLY ON THE F30. So with careful handling, the xD is just like another flash memory card. But a point to note: most of my transfers are under 20 files each time, so just perhaps a larger number of files like 50+ and above may give trouble ...perhaps some others might like to verify this.Last edited by micah4; 29th September 2006 at 04:32 PM. |
