Default Lembeh

Hi all,

came back from Lembeh some weeks ago, but have been busy with work. Here are some photos from my trip for comments.

Will be trying to post a new one every day (or every other day) on my pbase site.

BIG Cuttlefish, Angel's Window, Lembeh Straits, Indonesia 206.
Midway through the morning dive at Angle's Window, we spotted this large cuttlefish hovering infront of a nice oranage sea fan. It was deep though, and I had to descend knowing that it would make it a deco dive. Was worth it though.

Pygmy Seahorse, Nudi Retreat, Lembeh Straits, Indonesia 206.
For our last dive, we re-visited Nudi Retreat, this time armed with a 150mm Macro. The added distance of the 150mm and Woody Diopter helped me place my strobes and fill the frame. This picture is not cropped and i was able to fill the frame with this tiny bugger.

Stonefish, Jahir 1, Lembeh Straits, Indonesia, 2006
My right strobed failed to fire and created strong side shadows to this white stonefish's face and created such a menacing profile. I took 2 more shots with both strobes on, but I still prefer this shot.

err... i use auto WB, and sometimes play around in RAW converter. I didnt play around much for the shot above. I guess my camera made a good guess? Also maybe water colour really does change from country to country and plays a part if its green or blue?

great stuff, thanks for sharing.

yup, i like the way the side-lighting for the stonefish really accentuates its features..should post in the portraits and poses sub-forum too. i'm sure they could learn a thing or two from that picture..haha

Thanks guys.

Here is another shot. Love the patterns on it.

White Rhinopias, Aer Prang, Lembeh Straits, Indonesia 2006
The dive guide gave up looking for the white Rhinopias Frondosa (Scorpionfish) that was known to be at this dive site. We were heading back when my wife started banging on her tank like there was no tomorrow! ... and there camouflaged in the white soft coral, the white Rhinopias was lying quietly and stationary.

Hahaha! Photoshop or not, I bet it takes tons of skills for a pic to turn out like that! I'd give an arm & a leg to achieve pics of this quality..

Really nice photos, I like the colourful cuttlefish and the great texture on stone fish.

Thanks city! But I have to say that a bit photoshop goes a long way. I hate to overdo things in photoshop, but a tunning a bit of the photo is really useful. But yeah, nothing beats reviewing your photos on the back of your camera in the dive boat and knowing you got a nice shot.

Yeah zcf, the stonefish was a fluke - right strobe mis-fire. But interesting results... may try that with some other targets.

Going to print some out today and see if they come out well on proper photo paper.

Thanks rhealk.

My gallery of lembeh shots are at Lembeh 2006.

Posting a few more photos every week, as I have the time to convert from RAW and upload.
