Default How to do custom WB with R72 on

Hi,

Just to check how to do custom WB while R72 is on.

I hardly see anything thru my viewfinder. Can I just snap one shot and choose that as my WB?

The exposure part is up to us how long to expose?

Need help here.

Sorry.

Hi Sumball!
When doing the CWB with my G2, I can see through the screen, so I point it at something neutral and set that as CWB.
When doing the CWB with my 300D, I just approximately aim it at something neutral - trial and error.
Don't need to look in viewfinder, just snap a shot and choose as WB.

However, often I'd just shoot in RAW so I can play with later.
The exposure part - there probably is a better way, but I just trial & error and try again.
One setting I find works alright here is on a bright sunny day, I'll use f/1.8 1/10sec ISO1600 (from memory... I think),
but usually shoot, check histogram, and do it again until I find a nice setting!

Hi sumball,

Excuse me for pointing out that there is a sticky dedicated to the subject.

If like me, you sometimes don't read the stickies, it has been missed....

Anyway. What camera is it you are using for IR ?

I (with the D70) simply shoot a section of well lit grass from about 3 feet with the lens zoomed in.

I just aim (without trying to look through the viewfinder as I wont see anything anyway)

Check to see if the exposure is within... "OK in my thoughts"... and use that.

Probably not "THE WAY" to do it, but it is ok by me for shooting that day.

Hope this helps in some way.

I am shure others have better methods

Hi Pablo,

Yes I did read the sticky thread written by Max but I could not understand it, as he did not explain how to do custom WB. Thats why I started this thread

I will try it out shortly.

btw, I am thinking of using my 1D2 to do it, checked the sticky thread again, it is neither good cam nor bad cam for IR, so I gonna give it a try. Lens wise, it is a "bad" lens as I intend to use the Tamron 24-135.

Hi Sumball,

The reason I skipped the Custom WB part is because different camera have different steps to do Custom WB. Theres another stickies thats for customising white balance for different cameras, but your camera is not inside, so you'll have to read your manual.

Ah, now I read the stiky thread. Thanks Max for pointing it out to me. I suppose it is the same for all Canon EOS dSLRs.

Cheers!
