Sounds pretty promising.

I am still in awe of the quality of the pics from the F30, was browsing the other day. Too bad no full manual control in that cam or I confirm would buy.

Pretty pointless, if you ask me. I think it's more of a marketing strategy than a real useful feature. If the f30 is cheaper than the f31fd, I'd defnitely go for the f30. How difficult is it to focus on the subject's faces afterall?

There are still people who don't really know how to use a camera, and they think it's just a push of the button.

If they could do a little of that with the S pro serie that would make some people happy.

I dont see the new face detection function as any new innovation ... basically i feel that it will still fail in detecting the face some times . They should just make the new f30 replacement auto focus faster then this will truely be the ultimate pns already , adding the new face detection is totally pointless . If they are worry abt people that doesnt know how to do basic focusing then maybe should include a vcd or what teaching those people understanding the basic of focusing with a camera , if need to rely on the camera to choose focus for u might as well dont shoot .

It's almost the same as nikon's face piority.
I asked a question that day,if there was 3 rows of peoples and FP was turn on,then which face should be in focus.
Maybe the new model would drag the F30 price down, which is good news to alot of people including me.

If you read the site that threadstarter posted, it mentions that:

Identifying up to 10 faces in a frame, Face Detection Technology ensures photos of friends and family are crisp, clear and properly exposed for a natural feel.

Hope that answers your question.

P&S is P&S, most people who buy will probably not be read up about photography intrinsics proper. =)
