    another thing, you used tripod, but did you use remote or shutter release?
    with tripod, even pressing of the camera to shoot, will have some shake..
    well, depends on the tripod and other factors. ive taken plenty of sharp pictures tripod mounted without a remote or shutter relesae. at worst, just set self timer..

    Yup, agree that the pics aren't sharp enough.

    Yes, i used the remote switch.

    I was shooting with the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens.
    I had difficulty trying to make the subject sharp. I got to try harder next time.

    well, no worries...since 400D is a new model...yr postings of pics gives me an idea on how pictures look like out of the camera without any pp ...so cheers..u've done a gd deed

    in case you dont want to stretch to adobe camera raw or CS2, u may want to try using adobe lightroom. its beta now and free till next year. its a bit more powerful than DPP and good for organising pics etc. it also has a great B&W conversion.
