Default Malaysia My Second Home Programme?

Do you know anyone taking up Malaysia My Second Home Programme? A relative told us that some sites have listed Malaysia as one of the top countries to retire in.

My dad checked it out a couple of years ago, the requirements were not that favaroble. Although they may have changed by now.

Need to deposite RM 150 000 into a Malaysian Bank, buying property does not count.
Need to prove regular income of RM10 000 per month.

Sorry, now I recall this was the "Silver Hair Programe" for retiries.

I personally would retire in Thailand, somewhere like Chiang Mai, nice climate and relatively safe too compared with Malaysia. Cheaper also.

But If I could have a little hut on Redang Island that would be heaven.

Please be aware that at least 3-4months in a year, Redang and all areas around it is covered in torrential rain.. you can't have paradise without rain

My ideal retirement would be a vineyard in New Zealand. By the time I retire, that will be the only unpolluted country.

That expensive hut without electricity, water and gas supplies and without bath and toilet facilities would cost you RM$150,000.

If got money, everywhere is heaven.

If you want to live next to the rich and famous, just bring a cardboard box.....

I know a couple, close friends of my late father who took up this scheme. They're Canadians, both retired and both with a passion for nature photography. Packed everything up and moved to Ipoh where they organize frequent trips into the jungle to do photography. They love it there! So not everyone wants to live by the beach

Why bother with building your own roads?

Wouldn't be jumping from trees to trees a cheaper option?

I recall some changes to the old requirement.

Now you have to place 150K in FD for one year for a 5 years stay.

You are allow to purchase a car without tax but can't transfer name for a fixed period.
You can purchase up to 2 houses with each value not less than ???K amount.

Why you want to retire in Malaysia?
