price also different

speed would also depend on the camera buffer memory

Faster depends on the cards itself, both types have high speed ones. But hardier wise, it'll be the CF.

Write speed would be faster for SD when compared to a similar speed CF card.

CF cards the contact points are not exposed like SD cards..?

thats the only 'disadvantage' that i can think of for built quality..

Erm....why ask this question? I have both but can't tell which has significant advantage over the other

For me the consideration should be the camera it self rather than memory type....for the price different.....it's really a negligible consideration point.....both are matured technology...should be fast, large and durable enought for even a most demanding shooter needs

Depends on your camera. Let your camera do the talking. D80 uses SD. 350D, d200 and many others uses CF. Some PDA have both slots. Some handphone uses SD. So if you have a lot of devices using CF, you may want CF. Likewise for SD.
Brand is important too. E.g. I generally find Sandisk more reliable than Kingston.

Unless you're using burst mode at 10mp shooting RAW, you don't need such a super high speed memory card. Some memory cards are more compatible on certain devices. Have to do research if you're particular about it. Generally I like the sandisk Extreme III. C&G (Cheap and Good)

Well, maybe some people tend to lose SD cards more often and cos a SD is thiner, it seem easier to snap (Not that I can think of any ways to snap it other then deliberate means).

I've put my CF card into washing machines, threw it out the 5th floor window and left it in the sun for hours. And after all that abuse, it still works! It will be the same for SD cards I guess. The only way that I have damaged my cards is when I used a lousy card-reader that corrupted the card.

i tink a SD card being runned over by a vehicle would still be the same. reason being it's so thin to be crushed..

I own both types of cards....the CF is definitely better built and tougher than the SD.

I have PDA too but i think it's not practical everytime to move the data around when changing devices.....I prefer to have the memory card permanent to serve one purpose

i own 2 x CF, 1 x SD and 1 x MMC

SD and MMC so far no problems on different devices
1 x CF has got read/write problems on my D70

anyway the connector (pins) inside the camera is prone to accidents
