Ladiez and gentlemen! A third party maker of vertical grips and infrared release systems will officially announce the Sony Alpha A100 vertical grip! It is the same company manufactured a vertical grip for the KM 7D and KM 5D as well as the Nikon D50 and D70/D70s!

hmm.... why they create km/sony's vertical grip power supply using a cable connector. but ok la... not bad, the vertical grip for 7D is a alternative and good for those who wanted one for their 5D and A100.
but it looks abit thicker due to the attachment for differernt cameras. wonder how much are they selling ![]() |

Looks cool. Looks like the only way to buy it is via the shops themselves. Does not look that can buy off the net.

Looks like the grip for KM5D and A-100 is the same grip. In term of wiring, it's going to be good for either KM5D or A-100 and not both. The power jack and shutter jack location on KM5D and A-100 are swapped.

No doubt it can work, but if it's design for KM5D in mind, the power jack and the shutter jack will be position closer for KM5D. When the same grip is used on the A-100, there will be a need to run longer wire to those jacks. Not very nice IMHO.
KM5D power jack position is now A-100 Shutter jack position KM5D shutter jack position is now A-100 Power jack position

Or u can buy the old Canon BP200 battery grip and DIY to fit the 5D or A100. I'm using one but only trigger function, no power supply....

but would that be troublesome if you need to change your batt as you need to unmount your v. grip first.

![]() Waiting so long for this item to come true. Looks ugly in design but at least it's able to hold 2 Li-on batteries. Though I already acquired some lens setup and flash, I'm tempted by recent development by other brands. Now with Pentax showing off their 10mp K10D with anti-shake, SONY SS don't look exclusive anymore. ![]() Wonder why no VG on the A-100. It doesn't take a pro to take portrait shots. A A-100 and 5D with flash mounted is a bit cumbersome to hold for portraiture. Hope this VG comes soon to our shores (though I still find it looks ugly on a 5D) or might jump ship...he..he...he.... For the fact of the coming CZ lenses and the 7D replacement, I'm holding on. Last edited by greenieadi; 15th September 2006 at 03:54 PM. |

i'm disappointed with this 3rd party vg, for a bottom-up build and not home-made mod like the ones some of us made, i'd expect them to include a dummy battery insert with slot to fit the battery door, like the proprietary vg for the 7d. running a wire out for the battery would be just an extra mod step for the bp200... one thing i've noticed with such vgs, the grip can be quite loose, as they don't use the battery door and battery insert to add additional anchor points. on my 5d with bp200 vg, i've had to add anti-slip pads (designed for chairs!) but the 7d's vg fits like a glove.
ah.... mai hiam buay pai lah...
