Default Tokina 1A

What is 1A? UV or Skylight? How is it different from Skylight 1B? Under what circumstances do we use 1A filter?

Is it normal for 1A filter to have a warm color cast? It even slows the exposure by 1-stop.

And finally it is suitable to be used as a lens guard filter?

Those 1A, 1B, UV or Skylight is useful on film camera. Its purpose is to cut down the UltraViolet ray, which is affect badly on film. On digital Camera, UV is not as bad as Ir for the sensor. Ir is already cut using filter on top of the sensor. Some new digital series filter offer more Ir cut, but frankly speaking, its effectiveness is on question.

For protection of front element of the lens(es) on digital Camera system, use UV or NC filter.

I prefer B+W UV(0) MRC as its easy to clean and quality.

Arto.
