I don't know how many of you picked this up, but it seems that Pentax is coming with their own version of supersonic motor lenses. Explained below from the K10D preview.
"Supersonic motors have been available in Canon and Nikon lenses for a while but not yet to Pentax, the K10D is fully compatible with upcoming Supersonic Direct-drive motor lenses, the first of which are due to be announced at the end of this year. " Very interesting times for Pentax lovers. |

Pity that the new lenses may not even AF on bodies besides the K10D. Wonder how the lens would function on Z-series bodies with Power Zoom contacts.
Below is quoted from News page of dpnow.com: "First Pentax DSLR to be compatible with planned introduction of supersonic motor-driven lenses – but these new lenses won't be here until next year and we understand they won't work on older Pentax SLRs, including the K100D" "Although you will have to wait for them, the news that Pentax is developing new lenses featuring fast adnd quiet supersonic autofocus motors, akin to Canon's superb USM system and others like Nikon's Silent Wave AF, etc., is most welcome. Two extra contacts have been added inside the lens mount throat to facilitate this. Unfortunately, it looks like the new lenses will not operate on cameras released prior to the K10D. Details concerning the specification of the first Pentax supersonic lenses are expected soon." |
