I just bought a 70-300mm IS... the person at CP recommended me a UV filter that costs $70... cannot remember the brand though.... are there any good and cheaper alternatives? What is the purpose of the filter? Any recommendations for the filter?

$70?hmm....its B+W or you got slashed.
But personally for me, I would just use a Hoya HMC....shouldnt cost more than about $50...since its just for protection and I don't cap my lens....I wouldn't dare to scratch a $70 filter ![]() |

If for protection, I'll recommend either B+W UV MRC 010 or Nikon NC filter.
I assume that you have gotten the EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6DO IS USM. Thats a very good lens. 58mm filter should not cost $70... not even for B+W MRC normal UV... (the slim may cost that much) Last edited by Hoky; 11th September 2006 at 08:38 PM. |

Would you be able to share how much you bought the Canon 70-300mm IS lens? I am interested in getting one too, either brand new or used. If not convenient to post here, you could PM me.

Good choice ! As for filters, there are quite a few in the market. You can try Kenko, Hoya - Pro Digital filters. |
