Hi,
Anybody experienced this kind of problem with Canon BG-E2 Vertical Battery Grip with 20D or 30D? The problem: When pressing battery grip shutter button half way, it will focus and red dots are blinking. However when pressing the shutter button all the way down, nothing happens. Only after couple of seconds the shutter is actually released and photo is taken. The screw is as tight as possible. It stopped working middle of day during my photo shooting session If you know similar problems occured to someone else, do let me know. I tried to google quickly but could not find anything... maybe not correct search terms. |

You made sure you are on the correct shutter drive right? |

Bro, did you accidentally activiate the mirror lock-up function? Kindly check your custom function.

Hi,
Forget to mention that at the same time camera's main shutter works normally, without any problems. No delay when pressing it. And tested the battery grip with both 20D and 30D - both has the same problem. Today I shot like 300 photos using vertical grip, using both the main shutter release button and shutter button in BG-E2. And suddenly it stopped working ![]() And definitely not mirror-lock up nor self-timer if you mean that JediForce? Last edited by Peter_Tee; 8th September 2006 at 10:11 PM. |

But it is already about 9 months old... so, not brand new. Maybe I have taken too many photos and BG wants to retire... |

Had the grip with my 350D before.
Sometimes, everything froze, nothing happen when you press the shutter (both on the grip and camera), cant even change any settings it just total hang. Had to remove the batt from camera to reset the thing. BTW, I had two 350D and 2 grips before. Both always had the same problem. It sucks! |

there was a problem with a particular batch of batt grips with the 20D; not sure if it affected the 30D.
it was a contact problem between the contacts of the grip and the body. i've seen it affect pros on the job and have had to step in cover them on the fly while they reset their cameras only to have their camera jam again after a while. the other problem that shared almost the same symptoms as described is a faulty shutter that needs to be replaced. hope that helps. |

Thanks for your comments.
I visited Canon service center today and left the battery grip there. To my surprise, they told there are not any warranty for battery grip even it is only like 6 months old. And the grip cost about $ 300 when buying a new one. I'll see what will be the cost of the repair... |

I once had this problem and realised the shutter wasn't responsive to a full-squeeze. It focuses and it doesn't shoot.
A side note: just make sure the screw on the grip to the camera is completely tight. It is a contact problem with the grip and the battery contacts. I use a 30D in this case. Oh, mentioning repair, they don't do repairs to grips and they say that parts obtained for it is expensive. ![]() Last edited by fireblaster_lyz; 18th September 2006 at 02:29 AM. |

Hmm.. I've been having the same problem with my grip recently as well. The shutter button just doesn't respond when fully depressed (although half-shutter to AF works fine). It had been working fine before that (although it's not the same grip i bought 1++yr ago since I had to get it swapped due to the batt issue). Funny thing is I swapped it with my bro's 30D one (which is the same model) and we now both only rarely get this problem on our cameras with each other's grip. What gives? I can't even tell if it's the body or the grip that causes the problem now. =^/

I would try cleaning the contacts with a rubber eraser.

perhaps blow some air into the contacts to clear the dust away.
OT a bit. advisable to always keep the grip on the body? i dun want to take in take out. scared of wear and tear...

I am facing a similar problem with my main shutter button on my Film camera. It is able to focus, but does not react when depressed fully.
Hmmm... it will be troublesome if it is a problem with the shutter. |

yup, i have the same problem as well.
half-press on grip gives AF lock, but cannot release the shutter. have to turn off the camera and on again, failing which i had to take out the grip and "blow" on it. |
