Default Saw off rubber ring in EF-S?

Does it really work? Will you be able to mount an EF-S on a FF camera and expect it to operate normally? And for that matter, will you be able to use it on a 1.6x body again?

Anyone has *TRIED* it before? (not theoretical answers pls...)

Not long ago I came across this link, and it's good, though I wish it were more detailed.

http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/efconv

Sometime down the track, if I still have the 17-85mm, I might consider doing this. But therein comes the added challenge of finding the EF baffle.

With this done, I assume the lens will continue to work even on an EF-S mount body (eg. 350D). This is because those bodies can also use EF lenses. But you can probably expect quite strong vignetting with these lenses.

Looking more at putting a 10-22 on a 5D or a 17-55 on a 5D... Any solid results with which range to which range does vignetting occurs?

a person who did this mod told me at the wide end, the rear element will protrude into the camera, so mirror of a d60 will slap into it. not sure about FF.

The mirror of a d60 is a 1.6x mirror, there's no way it would hit the rear element of the lens. The kit lens works ok when modified, based on some people i know who have done it. Take a look at the back of the lens, if the glass protrudes into your body(i've never looked at any ef-s lens besides the kit lens), then it definitely will not work because of the larger mirrors in FF and 1.3x cameras. The whole purpose of removing the rubber ring is so that you won't damage your camera's mirror.

I tries saw off the back part kit lens 18-55mm and use it on film slr 3000V, it works from 22mm onward, so use to use it as a cheap wide angle lens.
