Default Red Flower from Mt Kinabalu

Took this picture while on my trip to Mt Kinabalu. Its taken near a chalet where I spent the first night. It was taken using my Nikon 775 under natural lighting. I am quite surprised the results were quite good with dof for such a diminutive camera.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think so. I am also quite surprised at the DOF. Anyway, I found out the 775 is quite good for macros. Quite surprised the colors turned out so nice. I printed this on a A6 and have it pasted on my office cabinet. My colleagues thought it was a postcard!

Nice Pic!
This 'red flower' can be easily found on Cameron Highland too.
You can buy it. The flower does not fade. You can keep it for a long long long long time!
There is a unique type of flower known as the 'Rafflesia'. It's world largest. It can easily be found at Gunung Mas, Sabah.
Btw, the chalet you stayed is not at the foot, but at midpoint of another mountain. They called it Mt Kinabalu National Park.
From Kota Kinabalu, you should drive up from the foot known as Tuaran, a small town with lots of crabs for sale along the way!
Did you visit the Poring hot springs?
Do return to Sabah, land below the wind, again.

Damn!!! I was only there for 4 days to cover Mt Kinabalu.
Didn't know this flower does not fade, else I would have gotten it back from my friend who loves flowers.

Thanks for the info!

Didn't see the crabs or the poring hot springs either. Great place though. Nice cooling climate and nice, friendly people!

I think I will go back there again.... missed the peacefulness there...

At least you got some nice pics of it. Next trip go for the Rafflesia!
Certainly a good place to photo shoot insects too. Lots of horn beetles and butterflies

You are from which part of Sabah? What do you think of Pulau Manukan? I love that island!

Oh.... not chin kan ko lah, dun feel like that mah.... I am from KK and I have another home in Tawau, which is near on shore of Sipadan. Manukan use to be very nice, but it's quite dirty for me compare to last time because too many tourist and not enough cleaning.

By the way, when you're gonna see the Raflesia flower, remember to check with the office whether it's blossom period or still at the seed period. Tambunan is the place to go and Gunung Mas as well. But the real largest species is actually deep inside the forest, not at those tourist trecking path.

Mt Kinabalu has new trails for climber ( or walker actually) unless you are taking the pro-climb which require you a license to do so. Don't get yourself lost like few years ago when the green barret from UK and HK lost in our jungle for 1~2 weeks, lucky they were found.

Yeah, I heard about the green beret case from the guides.
I took the "walker" trial. I think its quite well trodden already and quite difficult to see any wild life.

Didn't get a chance to see Rafflesia.

Yeah! I was there during the green beret incident. Obviously they did not track the correct side of Mt K. They went to the cliff side instead, and got lost.
Been to Tawau town too. Not forgetting the Lobsters there. Hugh one, few kilos, only RM$70. From there we travel to one of the river bank to watch the Probosis Monkey. Got to stay overnight at one of the kampong type 'ruin' house.
Tambunan is a great place for photo-shoot too. Never forget the drive there. The mountains never end. We drove for hours!
Arrgh! if not for the recent terrors, I would be going again lah!
