Default Non-L lenses - serial nos.

I was doing an inventory of my lenses (too many!) and when I started recording their serial numbers, I found out that most of my non-L lenses do not have serial nos. ( apart form my 70 - 300mm DO and my 50mm f2.5 macro). Other accessories like the speedlites, extenders, etc. do have serial nos.

Is this correct and if so, my questions are:

1) If they don't have serial nos. how do we report to the powers that be if they are stolen/lost/misplaced etc.

2) How do we prove ownership of the lenses?

3) If we send for servicing (anywhere) how do we know that what we get back in return is what was ours in the first place.

If I am wrong, can someone kindly please tell me where to locate the serial nos.

Many thanks

Got serial number leh. Its either inside like the L lens or on just on the outside. Only the kit lens has no serial number i think.

Flash also got serial number. Its next to the Conformity Europe logo above the IR sensor when deployed straight.

The kit lens does have a serial. My 30D kit: EF-S 18-55mm has one on the underside.

Ai yo, all lens should have serial number. Yes, kit lens also got serial. Located on (for 18-55) exterior, lower body: go search for it. Very easy to locate one.

Some of the s/nos are on the black part of the mount, very light, very faded, and can only be seen against strong lighting from a flat angle.
