For those of you thinking of getting the 30D, better hold your horses:
http://gadgets.fosfor.se/canon-eos-40d/ Nothing new. Just the 10 MP sensor in the 400D and anti-dust feature. A disappointment really... |

The website doesn't seem to have any source to back their posted specs and release date. I would take any rumors posted at this point with a (very big) pinch of salt.

Canon releases new models of their prosumer and consumer line DSLRs in 18-month cycles. The 350D was launched in Mar 05, so it's just right that the 400D is to be launched in Sep 06.
30D was launched in Mar this year, so 40D (or the replacement model) is likely to come out only in Sep next year. Anyway, if anyone needs the camera, then buy it now! ![]() |

Launched on 26 September 2006.....
That means the 30D is dead in 6 mths?? I suspect very few people will upgrade to 30D from 20D..... But based on the competition, I will not be surprised if 40D will be launched sooner than later..... Everyone agree that the 30D was just a minor update, and in fact, a short term gap.... so on this point, I think this should not be a surprise for most... just that as the rest is upping the challenge, Canon is responding according..... even senor was not updated for 30D.... now, 10.1MP.... I do hope that this is TRUE... as I am waiting for 30D replacement..... But Canon marketing is damn horrible in their milking strategy if this is true.... But if this cam is $500++ more expensive than 30D, and 30D is selling concurrently, with this cam, it could be another strategy..... 2 semi pro body... since market is booming and more and more film SLR jumping into DSLR... the timing does seems right??? And 30D price drop some more..... to say $1800 and 40D is $2400....

I won't be surprised if the 40D really comes out this soon....
Canon has already lauched many surprise attacks on the market....... I think that the 40D would be priced lower than the D200 for competition. If 40D comes out...its a worthwhile upgrade for me. |

This is one reason I stick with Nikon, for DSLR. They are slow to change and deliver, less temptations, gives one more time to master the camera and photography
![]() Canon is fast on the draw, I don't know how many Canon printers I've had that got replaced with a new model quickly, or my PNS Canon cameras. |

thats a new one for me, do you need a company to 'make' you spend money whenever there is a new model out? what phone brand are you using?

YMMV
I use Nokia since the beginning, already used to the interface, and I don't need any feature at all except to make and receive a call, and loud enough. I only upgraded to color screen, then later the polyphonic ring tones. I sure don't need the phone camera. I think camera sales cannot match the phone guys, their store is always full at shopping malls, with long queues. Not my thing to change phones. As for printers, I am forced to upgrade, the ink is obsolete !! Why Canon ? I only use it to print documents, they had the cheapest inks for some time, I can have my kids print all they want in color. But now looking for new printers again since I can't find the ink, their cheap inks are gone, replaced with new types of ink again at higher prices now. As for cameras, well, this is a special hobby for me, and yes, I will gladly spend the money if it's worth it, if it will improve the satisfaction I get from this hobby, money is secondary, up to a certain point. It all depends of course on one's priorities, I don't have much for phones ![]() Another is that if I had a 30D, and the 40D was worth upgrading to, and is as good as the 5D for example why not ? It will be easy to sell a 6-month old 30D without losing much as it is still new (assuming resale value of and demand for Canon is as good as others'). So why not change ? Again, YMMV, some cannot sleep after losing $200 Of course, if the loss is too big, assuming nobody will probably want a 30D, then no choice, live with it ...And I would rather stick with one company especially if I have most of their lenses. If I had spent on the great lenses of Canon, Canon all the way ... And btw, after investing in the other brand lenses, my friend said we should have been Canon users, after finding out that Canon lenses are cheaper, at least non-pro ones. Now, that is a great advantage, lots of selection.

the D80 and A100 already started killing 30D, now there's 400D that's killing 30D. As for canon users laughing at the A100.. Canon is hurt most by sony.. dSLR market share in July and June, according to Bloomsberg. Canon 33.3% 51.6% - Canon lost 20% Nikon 27.4% 32.6% - Nikon lost 5% Sony 21.6% 2.3% - Sony gained 20% My guess for August is.. Canon is still losing market share.. Admit it, how often do you see a 350D vs 20D conflict as to which to buy? 400D vs 30D is giving quite alot of newbies headaches, either go for better features/higher specs or go for more solid body. I'm not at all surprised if 40D does appear. In fact, I'm more surprised if it doesn't appear soon (though I'd be expecting it in March). LOL I'd call 30D an absolutely FUBAR c0ckup by canon, expecting the market to be dormant. Not much of the market innovator you'd expect them to be, now they're paying the price playing catchup. |

Color screens allow me to see the numbers better, in a more pleasing manner, for a more pleasant call and seeing who is calling
Would you be happy with a monochrome viewfinder ? The same with the ringtones. Now I can program Metallica and AC/DC and Stan Getz and hear a more pleasing ring tone to enhance receiving the call. So it does have something to do with making and receiving calls.Yes, I know. But there was a point in time where Canon had the cheapest inks of them all, $12 - $20 compared to $50 from the rest, and the ink will only last me 1 week the way my kids print. Now, Canon's prices seem to be about the same as the rest. Anyway, my kids have lost their interest printing too much cartoon stuff. "a peace of mind that no one could have possibly dropped it before" never thought of it that way before ...

I guess the 40D (wif specs and sensor same as 400D) is to cater for market who prefer bigger camera size. (I cant imagine angmoh wif big fat hands using the tiny 400D)
Already Sony and Nikon has enter the 10MPs entry level DSLR market wif decent cam Canon wont be comfortable pushing tat market solely wif their 400D.

when got new products coming, everyone also complain they replace old one so fast. when the price for existing model drop, everyone also complain the price drop so fast when the price for new model become cheaper than existing model, everyone also complain it is killing other model consumer really hard to satisfy ![]() Last edited by Wai; 6th September 2006 at 12:21 PM. |
