While searching for something, I came across the post just when D200 was released, and all the praise about the great ISO noise control, etc, etc, and with quite a few drooling. Was that over a year ago ? Well, I think they never bought in the end anyway Now d80 came out, I thnk same thing will happen ![]() |

![]() As long as it outperforms, good enough for me. If not enough juice, get a few more batteries. |

the 1st charge for mine last almost up to 500 shots only. 200 of them doing macro shots of flower, and the rest is mostly indoor, with flash.
2nd charge to be tested may be this weekend. |

For $83 more, you get more satisfaction with a D200. I can sponsor you a picture taken by D200,,, ![]()

Battery life is also mostly dependent on whether one shoots in uncompressed RAW or jpeg, and how often LCD display is on, connection direct to PC, ... The much better LCD of the D80 or D200, IMHO, is worth it even if it means buying more battery spares. No need to guess which angle is best to look at unlike with the D70s, and it's bigger.
Anyway, there are reviews already on the web, those who wrote about the battery did say it's good (they didn't say whether they shot in jpeg or RAW, though). All of them, however, say there is still a significant gap from the D200, except Ken Rockwell (who else). He goes further to say buy a D50 if not enough money But from reading these reviews, the d80 is destined for some awards soon and is a good buy. If I were buying a camera now (no camera or lenses), with less than $2K, I'll just buy a D80 body and maybe a 50mm f/1.8. But must buy immediately, at least one gets to use it to take great photos before the next "better" model comes out again, less heartache since rewards from the satisfaction of the photos taken have would have "paid" for it already. |
