Hi there,
I am a newbie here. I have a Sony F828 and just realized that the inner side of the lens is infected by slight fungus. I brought to Sony service center and they said they cannot do anything because for this kind of camera they cannot open the lens. Is there anything that I can do to get rid of the fungus ? Thanks in advance. Steven |

for comapct camera, they usually replace the whole lens set, which is very costly indeed
.If it does not affect the image quality, then just sun (the lens part) frequently and put it in the dry box, hopefully it won't grow further. Normal lens usually can send to TCW (The Camera Workshop, around ground floor in Peninsula Shopping Centre). Not sure they can clean compact camera or not though.

Using it mosre often and expose it to light and proper storage when not use(short periods) will help slow down the fungus growth. I have an old Pentax DSC which has fungus that grew on the inner fornt element and stopped growing once i started playing with it once in a while outdoors..

Thanks for all the suggestions. Guess I have to live with it for the time being.

I think it's possible to remove the front element and clean it but if the other elements are infected than I don't think it's possible to clean them.

Hi fellow ClubSnappers,
I am also in the same boat. Recently bought a used F828 and did not check properly and discovered that there are signs of fungus/mould growing on the internal part of the lens. Questions: 1) Will the fungus/mould grow to the rate whereby it'll affect the quality of the shots? (So far, tested with indoor/outdoor shots and the pictures seems ok) 2) Is there a proven method which solves this fungus problem? 3) Will condensation (bringing the camera out of an internal environment of lower temperature (ie. airconditioned room to outdoors) to an external "hot" environment cause further degradation?) Thanks so much for your input on this. It's really an issue that I've never encountered before on my previous F717. |

Investing in a dry cabinet to store your equipment may help prevent the growth of fungus. It's often too late to do anything abt it once the thing starts growing.
