Thread: D80 vs 400D - AF speed and AF tracking (eg. moving children)

Default D80 vs 400D - AF speed and AF tracking (eg. moving children)

Anyone had a good try out of the AF speed between the 2 cams during the COMEX?

I was there but my hands were too occupied to try both properly

    TIA!

think the lens matters a lot too, so unless comparable lenses are used, the results might not be conclusive.

Agree.... but what I'm interested is the AF algorithm differences in real world situations

...hmmm... maybe I should get both and test... then sell the one that doesn't make it to my mark

i believe both are goood, and not much of difference in normal lighting condition, as for low light condition, the difference might just be a very slight difference. after all both are using the same AF algorithm of the brand mid-range dSLR, so shouldn't be that bad

Compiled the following earlier based on tests done at www.imaging-resource.com They haven't done the measurements yet for D80 and 400D though. The second table is more relevant for AF speed comparisons (lenses cause a big difference).

    Nikon D50 (113ms/134ms)
    Nikon D70 (124ms/155-168ms)

why not get the D50? Its got a dedicated 'baby photography' mode on the dial.

don think it is a fair comparison, since all were tested with different lens, but gd as a reference.
