Question S3, ixus 800 or 350

Hi bros out ther;
I'm caught in between S3, ixus 800 or 350. I'm a newbie to photography so wondering what i shld buy.

Ixus 800: Compact but afraid output will not b as nice as S3 or 350. Fully automatic.

Powershot S3: Manual control, but bulky.Focus using button control thus no feel of manual focus. Review shows it gd, but there is oso review that comment that it is real bad? S3 users; kindly advise me.

350: Best of all though it is not in the same category.

I'm more keen on S3, but couldn't make up my mind. Any kind soul can help me?

Where can I get the cheapest deal? I know there is alot of ppl mentioning M S Color, Alan Foto.

The 3 camera that you stated are totally in a different category....

The 350D will takes much more commitment from you(in terms of $$$ and equipment level), and you may not like to lug around a larger body and many lenses around.

The IXUS800IS is one of those point and shoot camera that is small enough for you to bring around all the time in your handbag or pocket or even hang around your neck. The picture quality from IXUS800IS is decent enough for most shooting purposes, but the lack of manual control is something you should consider if you want to learn more about photography.

The S3IS sits in between the 2 camera. It is small enough to put inside a bag, you don't have to worry about getting other lenses for it, yet it offers decent manual control for you to play around with. I would recommend this camera if you are concern about picture quality, and wishes to have more control over your photography, but ain't too sure about your future commitment with photography.

I think you have to decide to what level of photography you are into? Just to take some shots for event recording, like birthday, holiday, etc. Or want to shoot more artistic pic, like flowers, people (those on the street), scenery...etc and of course your love ones. If its the formal, take IXUS, if its the later, take at least the S3.

350 is for serious fellows, but entry level.

I am a S3 user...

S3 is a good prosumer... cant go wrong.
400D is good also.. if u want to go DSLR.
its really down to what u want. they are both different propositions.
S3 u have 400mm zoom out of the box...
go check canon lens price to see how much that will cost u if u want to get it on a DSLR.

Canon is famous for its very good noise handling, even at high ISO speeds of 400 and above.

No major cause for concern at ISO400 I should think.

U can go to the S3 Pic Thread and have a look at all the S3 pics posted by all the SX users (some are S2 users). Post 631 is my shot with my son at home, at night with only 1 home ceiling light on.

S3 ISO 400 won't be as good as the DSLR ISO400 due to the sensor size....slightly smaller than 6x4.5mm...
