I took this picture below (resized) and found it is not sharp at all. Feel disapointed with it.
Is there any way to get a better picture with te kit lens? Or should I forget about it and start saving now for a better lens? ![]() the properties |

Yes, it's sharp if you step to f/8 and onwards.
But the color and contrast still sucks. |

I'd say 350D + kit lens = harder to get sharp picture.
Frankly, I hated the kit lens MK I, and I still hate the kit lens MKII. The kit lens is only ok at f5.6 outdoors because of the higher contrast. Indoors, you'd need f8 for it to look good. Ok but that being said I shoot mostly indoor, which is why it doesn't work for me. If you do mostly outdoor shots, it's passable I guess for the price. If you have the budget, get something else, why deliberately make life difficult for yourself?

Has anyone customise their parameters for sharper pic? I am sure the results are better.

I tend to shoot in RAW then sharpen later. If not i just do +1 for all.. If i'm using a non-L then maybe +2 for all except contrast

It looks more like the fault of the photographer rather than the fault of the equipment. Looks pretty severely underexposed. Check ya skills before faulting the lens and camera.

f/5.6, 1/15, ISO400, exposure compensation from +1/3 to +2/3 Since u're an Aikidoka, I presume u'll know abt the special set of wrist strengthening exercises taught by ur Sensei so handshake is not really an excuse. ![]() That is of cos, u're not thoroughly exhausted after ur Irimi-nages. ![]()

To check the exposure look at the histogram and not rely on your LCD alone.

Knowledge on shutter, aperture, ISO is better than depending on the LCD preview to check exposure. Couple that with viewing the Histogram, even better.

i believe it is capable of getting sharp image as long as you stopped down to around f8. at least i felt that my nikon kit lens 18-55 is pretty alright.
but sold it too as i find f8 is pretty slow unless under very good lighting/flash |
