Default Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 problem... soft!!

Hi, anyone who owns this lens has a problem with it??...
I recently jumped boat from KM.... using a 350D now... this is the only lens I have and had bought it late last month...
I did not have the time to play around with it until yesterday when i went to RSAF open house.... I realise the images are very soft even after I added sharpness using the camera settings... I did some test shots at home.... results are still the same....
anyone has similar experience... not sure whether is it becos of the camera settings cos I am still new to canon DSLR.... I was using the KM 17-35 previously and I must say it was SHARP!...
wonder could it be a defective lens.... anyone sent in a Tamron lens for exchange or service b4??...

Sample photos ?
What are the shutter speed of those photos ?
Maybe you not get used without anti-shake ?
Sad to hear that the 17-50mm is soft.. although I haven't owned it yet.

may be can do front/back focus test shots? The F/5.6 one seem sharp, f/2.8 seem quite soft to me.

which focal length were the pics shot?

From the link below, the MTF table show that :
at 17mm, the edge is sharper then centre at f2.8 & f4.....
at 35mm, centre & edge consistent at f2.8, but at f4 onwards, edge sharpness drops...

PM replied. no la no extension. it's 3 year warranty anyway but the lens has been absolutely fantastic ever since. at f/4, it's very sharp at 28mm and 75mm. 2.8 is veyr usable

Can you elaborate what exactly is the problem on your 28-75 f/2.8 lens?

I am very keen on getting another one. I had focusing issues in the past, especially at far off objects. I ended up returning the lens (in Canada).

BTW, what camera are you using? The 300D/10D/350D all use terrible AF sensors.

Sometimes it could be a problem with the mis-alignment of lenses...think tilt-shift lenses or lens-baby...

Mine is sharp even at 2.8, however, i spent alot of time testing multiple copies at the shop, the guy at TK was helpful, he even blew off a dust on my sensor.

im using a 350D. my tamron 28-75 had an intermittent soft picture problem. sometimes it would be sharp at f/4 and above and soft at 2.8. sometimes it would be sharp at f/2.8 only and no other aperture would increase sharpness. it's not my AF sensors. ive been learning how to make use of the sensors properly and i think it has helped so far

Phew, I must be very lucky then, i also have the 28-75 and it's still one of my favourite lens as its very sharp at f2.8. But then again, i did extensive testing when buying as well...
