Default Sigma DG 70-300 MARCO

Hi I have just brought a Sigma DG 70-300 MARCO len for A100. But was not sure how to use the MARCO. Can any expert in ClubSnap teach me how to use?

Thanks a lot.

So far I use the len for photoshooting & found that it is much sharper then the Sony kits len.

Maybe I'm wrong, just my opinion.

zoom to 200-300mm den switch the switch to macro

during macro you can only use >200mm
to acheve maximum result of 1:2, zoom to 300mm and use manual focus and turn the focus ring till it is the longest. from there on move back and forward until subject is in focus

It's a good value for money lens. Make sure you close the aperture down 1 to 2 stops, ie use f6 or more for better sharpnest.

Some macros taken with similar lens, the non DG version. The photo not as sharp because I was using it handheld. Tripod is always recommended for macro when possible. http://tankm.fotki.com/small/ahbt/

Hi, have saw those shots you took using Sigma 70-300 MARCO.

Can help to enlighten me?

Eg. If I wan to take a fly, how far shd I stand, must I switch the dia on A100 to MARCO? Can I use auto focus or manual?

Thanks

The FLY shots are taken with the SIGMA 105mm f2.8 macro lens.

Regardless of lens, you do not need to switch the A100 to macro mode. Usually I use Aperture priority mode, I adjust the f-stop to get the required depth of field and let the light condition determine the shutter speed. If shutter speed is too slow, then I will use the flash.

With the Sigma 70-300 lens, to get maximum magnification, you will need to focus at the closest focusing distance possible at 300mm. One method to learn macro is to try taking macro of still object in your house. You will get the feel of the minimum distance and how large a subject you can get.
