Leaving for expo soon as ill be working at the Nikon booth this round.
So far confirmed is that D70s, D80, d200 will be there, but not d50 D80 most prob selling only with kit, though they are trying to have some sets for body only (not confirmed) D70s and D200 will come with some pretty attractive freebies including manfortto tripods woth 300+.. not the d80 though. But still good to come down to hands on it. I played with it a few days ago.. the ISO100 (only other one is d200), lightweight and controls are quite interesting and attractive. Will keep you guys updated anyone interested to play the d80 can come find me ![]() Last edited by XC Pictorial; 31st August 2006 at 09:37 AM. |

Holy sh*t my pic really is on!!!
Sorry for the late reply guys... ok the D80 comes with 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 at $2288 for body alone its $1799... i personally find the 18-135 not as good as the D70s kit lens (18-70) I feel that during the show this lens does injustice to the capabilities of this camera.. If ur coming to test the camera, i suggest you bring ur own SD card and also use the 50mm F1.8 on the d200, even better use ur own f2.8 lens.. i dunno about the other guys, but i jus allow all customers to do so today... The build really reminds me of 18-55 (d50 kit) and 55-200. Hence i find body alone pretty worth it. If ur looking for an upgrade from d70 to d80 i think this show is a pretty good time.. Im quite attracted to the ISO100-3200, 10MP sensor and slightly changed controls. Stock seem to be available at the show and not at any of the shops outside... I got a feeling after the show there might be shortage of stock for a while, and price definitely wont drop for quite a while... so this seem to be not a bad time... (should upgrade too? ) |

Personally, I find the camera a little too light and small. Some may like this but I found that once I put a 17-55 on, I was thrown off balance...my habit is to hold the camera in my left hand so that the lens and camera are balanced in my palm, but when I tried to do this with the D80, I had to shift the position of the camera's placement and ended up holding more of the lens. This may be attractive to ladies though, I was at a couple of camera shops today and quite a few couples were looking at the D80 and the ladies were nodding with approval when they held the camera. Some men even bought the camera with the excuse that they were going to give it to their wives/girlfriend _ Last edited by deadpixel; 1st September 2006 at 01:05 AM. |

Of cos if budget allows.. i would go for d200 anytime as well...
However similar to the 350d/20d case... why pay more only for the build when they use the same sensor? Considering the price diff near 1K, i will rather live with the lighter d80, imo.. and as for the 18-135.. the mount behind is plastic like the 18-55... i rest my case on it.. |
