Why does it irk you if there are too many "photographer-wannabes" out there? Do you feel threatened? Let their work speak for itself. If you're good you have nothing to worry about. If you're lousy, then well, take it as more motivation to improve yourself beyond this "baseline" level. I really don't see the issue here...

Im sick of the people who think photography is just pusing a small circular button, its impossible to explain it to these people who live in a world of camera phones and digicams!

Whats wrong with wannabes? Act like the best, learn from the best, become the best!

theres nothing wrong with wannabes. but its seriously wrong if u are a wannabe and try to be (Know-It-all), especially in front of a pro or someone who clearly has more experience than you....

its either u luff ur butt of at that person, of u will be irritated by him....

Well, people should have the common sense to shut up when there is someone who knows alot more then them. Keep mouth shut and ears/eyes open to watch and learn!

    I have this problem too.

Use this analogy. If photography equals pressing a button, then soccer means kicking a ball. Racing means driving very fast. Golfing means swinging a metal pole in direction of a small hole with a very small ball.

    They'll get your drift.

Will try it, cheers, but if it blows up in my face then I will be blaming you!

My guess is that their response will be "yeah, thats right, its all just that, why do you think its more then pressing a button, even I can do that!" yet still so

Ok, yes I shoot. But I shoot as a hobby, and as an art. I never want to be 'pro' or never call myself one. My photos are still bad. The common misconception is big camera = pro.

So again I use this analogy. You have an expensive watch. Are you a professional watch reader? You have a big car, are you a professional driver? You have a big phone, are you a professional talker?

Then again..... People who say photography is easy, blahblahblah.... It's different from merely taking photos. I'll show them my online gallery. Those people who think I'm snaping at nothing. Or can't appreciate the beauty of a scene (I can understand). Worse still is people who do not know photography of take pictures who criticise me for shooting at nothing. I understand this too.

And of cos everyone is a wannabe.

Some are satisfied just randomly snapping. Some take it up as a hobby. Some aim to master it as an art. Some aim to be pro.

Yes, but should not call oneself pro from the beginning. Know your standard, I feel. Go slowly, no rush.

Now I wonder what the boys will think when the gals in Geylang introduced themselves as 'Pro'?
