Hi All,

Just thought of sharing out some of the Night shots that I took by varying the different White Balance on my D70s for discussion.

I think doing night photography with custom white balance will give you different results with different settings. This is due to the fact that there are many different light there e.g. tungsten, flourescent, street lights etc.

This is a tough call, but I think that Direct Sunlight is very close to the original scene colouration.

Yap, agree with jbma on this point. The different white balance setting can bring out a different feel for each shot.

Hi ernest,

Thanks. I think the red tint using the fluorescent White Balance looks rather interesting, but I actually prefer tungsten because the blue give it a cool feeling.

Hi Mike,

You are welcome. This is the effect that I was trying to discuss about during the Night Outing. The different White Balance setting will give the picture a different feel. Do feel free to experiment with it more. Cheerz.

Hi Simon,

Thanks. My favourite is also Tungsten White Balance too. Do try out the different WB effects for Night Photography. Alternatively is to shoot in RAW and tweak the WB later using the software.

i just had to mention this, if any of you going there to take the same shots from my location, you'll notice some russian words on some white board like under construction, me and a friend where there to take the above shots and suddenly, the tree started "raining". yep, no typo but water was pouring from the tree. it's quite dark up in the trees but some ang mo then came taking photos like they expected it, we tried looking for water pipes going up the tree, maybe it too well hidden but we see nothing. ang mo shone lights up there some more, can see nothing but water coming out what seems to be the bark of the tree. there's even chinese words right in front of the covers surrounding the trees that reads "a miricle is going to happen", a small crane is in front with a lamp post broken into half and red tape all over the place. i wonder what the hell is going on...the ang mo doesn't seem to be speaking in english, we left after a while when the rain stopped.

maybe some hoax.

Hi etegration,

Thanks for sharing your finding.
It seems that Auto White Balance is very close as Daylight and Flash.
Interesting finding. Thanks for the effort.
