Just to share out some of my Night Photography shots taken at Clarke Quay using the zoom effect techniques. Apologies as my tripod is not really stable, that is why the image is a bit shaky, but the main thing is to share out the techniques and the effects. Cheerz.
#1 ![]() #2 ![]() #3 ![]() Another way is to use the zoom effect techniques together with the black card techniques which I share with the few who turn up for my first trial outing for sharing and discussion.

Hi Canew,
That is really cool. Guess you took it at Westin Stamford hotel. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your zoom effect too. It is very nice. I believe yours is using a small aperture as your lines are very fine. Inspire to try smaller aperture next time. ![]()

Apologies for the late reply. For the zoom effect, I set my ISO at 100, shutter speed to around 10secs, aperture f11 (if the lighting condition is very low, you can try to use a bigger aperture, but bigger aperture will render a much thicker lines). For the Step Zoom effect 1. Zoom your lens to the most telephoto end and compose something bright and interesting. 2. Trigger the shutter release button 3. After the shutter is release, count for 2 secs then start to zoom back (To Wide) to the next focal length. 4. For 10 secs, you can zoom up to 5 focal length. OR For the Straight Zoom effect, 1. Zoom your lens to the most telephoto end and compose something bright and interesting. 2. Trigger the shutter release button 3. After the shutter is release, count for 4 secs then start to zoom back (To Wide) to the 5 focal length down within a period of 2 secs. 4. Leave the frame in the Wide position for another 4 secs. Hope that answers your questions. ![]() Do feel free to discuss. Hope that you can join our Night Outing and we can discuss this. Cheerz.

Really sorry to keep you waiting. Was out for an afternoon shoot and got back at around 9:00pm. Just saw your post not long ago. Really thanks for your patience. I will try my best to answer and discuss about any question within a day or so. If you do not see my reply, do kindly drop me a PM as I might have missed your post. ![]() Hopefully I can get a Night Outing started so that we can discuss about these techniques. There are quite a few techniques we can try. One more way is to make it progressive frame by frame zoom using Bulb mode and Black card.

For the issue of zooming in or out, there is no hard and fast rules for this technique. I guess the main thing is the effect you want to achieve. For my case, I zoom from telephoto to wide to move the "Welcome to Clarke Quay" to the centre of the frame. For your case, the main focus is on the Indoor Stadium, you zoom in to create a the light trails and glow which make it interesting. Maybe we can try out a zooming-in effect vs a zooming-out effect and do a comparison. Cheerz. ![]()

For this shot, it is more tricky. For this, you will need a Tripod with Pan-Head (I was using a Ball-head that time and I have to loan the tripod from my friends). Setting ISO : 100 Aperture : f8 or f11 (Need to confirm this) Shutter Speed : 30 secs 1. Mount the camera on the Pan-Head and tilt it to a vertical position 2. Focus on the subject and turn off the autofocus 3. Trigger the Shutter Release button and start counting for 2 secs 4. Using the Handle on the Pan-Head, start to rotate bit by bit with 2 secs for each angle. Then you should be able to get something similar. Hope that helps.
