Default shooting sky pictures

Hi all,

I tried taking some photos of clouds and skies yesterday. the camera shows !AF plus handshake icon most of the time, regardless of the shutter speed and aperture (e.g at Auto, shutter speeds at 1/400 and f4).

Pictures turn out blur. I know that the camera essentially has nothing to focus, clouds turn out soft and not defined). What should i be doing here?

Thanks.

p.s. seems that on my SLR, i just have to point and shoot..

set it on the tripod.
use manual settings (inc. focus)
Look for something to focus on if there's no option for MF.

hope it helps

You just have to keep trying and find a spot where there is a sudden contrast transition. (sun, any dark/bright streaks in the clouds).
