FZ30 to FZ50. You are paying for.. # Ten megapixel 1/1.8" CCD # 16:9 movie record mode (848 x 480 pixels) # TIFF file format dropped (RAW remains) # Venus Engine III image processor # Scene modes adjusted # Sensitivity up to ISO 1600 at full size, ISO 3200 (upsampled) # TTL Flash hot-shoe # Slower continuous shooting (from 3 to 2 fps, max images from 7 to 5 in standard) # Lower resolution LCD monitor (from 230,000 to 207,000 pixels) # Support for SDHC cards (SD greater than 2 GB) # 'SilkyPix Developer Studio' for RAW conversion My personal opinion: You are paying for all that, retaining a 12x zoom, compact body for a big zoom, OIS, and waist level shooting etc. However, you are also paying for uncertain noise levels typical of panasonic, and the inability to switch lenses unless you buy other lenses like macro and wide angle. Your bokeh may not also be fantastic unless you zoom at 12 x. Also, details captured on a high MP but small sensor camera may not match that of a DSLR... I think FZ50 noise control should be better than FZ30.

Judge it yourself. To me, FZ-20 was the best model in terms of image resolution to noise ratio. This FZ-50 is by far the noisiest FZ - XX series I've ever seen |

Personally I still feel that FZ50 is recommended for first time buyers...
For the rest of us FZxx owners... DSLR is the next level up! ![]() |

hi oTaRu,
Let me try to stop ur itch caused by BBB virus.... ask urself: " Can i take better pic with the new camera?" "Can i differentiate the pic taken by both camera?" " Will my skill improve after buying the camera?" if all answer is "No" u shall know if the money spend is justifiable or not I always use this method to stop my itch whenever i start to dream about D200.. sigh... p/s: if one day u see me using new camera .. pls don't ask me all the questions above. My answers r still "NO".... just can't fight the BBB virus ,, that's all.. haha... ![]() Last edited by DaXiong; 25th August 2006 at 01:30 AM. |

"Can i differentiate the pic taken by both camera?" = Of cos you can see the difference in noise " Will my skill improve after buying the camera?" = Up to you, but to me dSLR learning curve makes you improve faster than using compact conclusion = Im caught in the BBB virus ![]() Last edited by ExplorerZ; 25th August 2006 at 07:19 AM. |

![]() details wise not much since both are compressed to 300dpi, but at 8R or bigger i think can see different in detail as well since lumix at iso400 would be pretty much ruined by either noise or noise reduction =x |

![]() anyway if want to compare fz30 and 50... image quality and everything are 80-90% same, except you get 2more MP. noise level still the same even with the new venus III, the more efficient noise control ended up making the 10MP noise looks like FZ30 8MP noise level.
