Good capture. If pop-up flash is used then how come top is over? Curious.

You feeding it?

I assume it can be found near your work place.

over exposed dur to the hot and bright noon day sun, the pop up flash was just used to fill in the shadows and freeze wings.

this shot at 1/500s to try to freeze the movement.
the good thing about the D70 and fast flash sync speed.

This is a male carpenter bee (Xylocopa confusa); like all other bees he feeds on nectar and will surely appreciate some honey, but when he hovers as he usually does he isn't interested in feeding; he is defending his territory against other males and looking out for a mate at the same time

The female of this species is black, with a yellow thorax.

Alex, either he don't like you or he see
you as a potential mate.
