Default Where are the SONY lenses ?

Some lens that should be in the market but not yet.

For June 06

18-200 mm F3.5-6.3 - USD$499
50 mm F1.4 , USD$349
50 mm F2.8 Macro , USD$479
100 mm F2.8 Macro , USD$679

For Aug 06

11-18 mm F4.5-5.6, USD$649
70-200 mm F2.8 G , USD$2399

Seems that the November date given for the first CZ lens won't be as plan too? Too bad their marketing is good but lens not roll out fast enough as they planned. Like many still waiting for their list of lens.

Even at photokina only see they introduced the T10. I wonder if they forgotten the KM-based users. Bcoz the newbie users on the A100 will have their hands full with the kit lens and 75-300mm if the y purchase together, to play with at the moment.

Sad.

I saw 3 lens available at SONY IMM yesterday.

18-70mm @SGD$299
18-200mm @SGD$999
100mm Macro @SGD1299

If exchange rate is US$1 = SGD$1.6 then it's cost abt SGD$200 more than RRP. Will go hunting for Tamron,Tokina or Sigma for lens. Cannot justify that kind of price from SONY.

Maybe SONY need to wake up, if want a slice of the DSLR pie, must price their lens aggressively too. Not just on advert. With 400D & D80 out, SONY must look at the 3rd lens for pricing, if, they want to be competitive.

Prices quoted from Sony Squares are lower, about 10% lower. But only for the 75-300 Sony lens. Didn't ask about other lens though bcos they don't stock them when I asked. But generally you can expect to find them lower than the Sony price.

I said Sony Square, not Sony Gallery. IMM is Sony Gallery owned by Sony where you can drop your Sony stuff for repairs too. Sony Squares are exclusive dealers for Sony products that sell other stuff like creative mp3, rice cookers etc... These folks can sell at lower prices to make lesser profits.

see this instead

Don't mix them up bro!

Actually, I find that most KM users are more of the price conscious group of DSLR users, as we got it mainly for the quality, ergonomic and value for money. However $ony marketing seem to be way different from KM last time, so the $ony pricing don't seem to go well with most KM DSLR users mind set

You're welcome

One thing I find from Sony Square is that they can sell lens and accessories for the Alpha system but they are not willing to take too much risk to get those good (hence expensive) lens since they are new in the dSLR business. I had been bugging them for the 56AM flash (which they quote me about $500++, can't remember, $300++ for the 36 one) but until recently they still don't stock them in their shelves (last check over weekend). End up buying from ms colour for $560 instead.

Maybe if more of us call them to ask about lens and flash etc they may feel confident to stock them in their shelves.

The RRP for kit is almost same at USD$199 or SGD$299. Can't say about the other lens.

Only Sony lenses I'm interested in are the CZs but it looks like by the time they are released I will be too old to hold a camera steady.

it seems Sony is in the DSLR business with a p&s mindset. i'm starting to suspect they didn't factor in the overall cost and inventory issues with lenses and high-end accessories when they decided it was a good idea to buy over km. bit off more than they can chew?

The current SONY lens and planned "new" lens, other than CZ are rebadged "Minolta" with cosmetic changes.
