Hello all, work may take me down to Townsville, QLD soon and I may try to sneak off and dive the Yongala.
Has anyone here dived this wreck before? Any ideas what to look out for from a photographic point of view? Macro or Wide-angle? [edited by mod: pls post WTB or WTS in buy/sell forum] Last edited by beivied; 21st August 2006 at 05:31 PM. |

It's a great site. Bring out all your cameras and shot WA.
Schools of giant groupers, trevallies and cobiaas swim around the various depths of the wreck. Incredible life there. Centre of wreck covered with silty sand. Beware of divers who swoop in and out. Vis will turn lousy in a short while by them. Some of the structures are giving way. You may wan to be careful. Have fun. |

Was there in 2002.
As mentioned, lotsa marine life. You will encounter bigger stuff rather than macro. Go WA Saw seasnake, giant grouper, turtle, ray, shark, sch of fishes all in 1 dive. Vis was only abt 10-15m when I dove there. Surface was rough but is not too bad when down below. Was with Adrenaline dive and the boat is fast and decent. Nothing much happening in Townsville though... ha Enjoy |

Many thanks to kohss and Tuffatore for the tips.
Wondering whether you know how much in advance I have to book. Anychance of Adrenalin or Yongala dive centres being fully booked? |
