Yup, I had +8hrs on all times to convert from UT to Singapore time.

1242 am of Sept 8.

Meaning whole day of Sept 7 over --- Midnight --- 1242am.

Penumbral contact means eclipse start, where the disk of the moon is lightly darkened.
Umbral contact, the disk of the moon will be in earth's shadow and will (hopefully) appear reddish.

sorry if this is very cheem.

Hahah....

The moon would move across the night sky, just lke how the sun does.
Also the moon would only appear slightly off-colour due to the eclipse, and not fully blood red. The edge of the moon would be in earth's shadow and would not look round.

I suppose any big field might do nicely if really your views are totally blocked.

Hi,

I think TS posted this on the "Events" forum too Anyway, intrigued by your (earlier) post, I checked out the NASA site, and I think the following credit line is missing from the post:
Eclipse map courtesy of Fred Espenak - NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center.
For more information on solar and lunar eclipses, see Fred Espenak's Eclipse Home Page:
http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/eclipse.html
By the way, Mr Espenak has a really nice page on Eclipse photography as well:
Lunar Eclipse Photography by Fred Espenak

Back to the topic, from the GIF file it would seem that there is only very little visible eclipsing though (since only the portion when the moon is in the Umbra would be visible as an eclipse)... wonder if my interpretation of the file is right?

i wonder wat sort of equipment i'll need to shoot a lunar eclipse?
a super-telephoto at 400mm?

also, i noticed that in some areas of singapore the moon at night was exceptionally big whereas if you travel to some other areas the moon is relatively smaller. I noticed this because one day I was travelling home and when I compared the moon from where I started out from to the destination, the moon was seen to be smaller. Is there a scientific explanation for this? If so, there could be some areas which are the best spots for taking pictures because the moon is seen to be relatively larger and hence we do not really need a really long telephoto. i guess. furthermore, the larger moon that i saw was much brighter and appears to be much closer to me. really nice....

cheers.
