You are supposed to turn on the NR for such long exposure shots.

dont panic. it's 'normal'...had similar experience once. Just to reiterate what the bros said said earlier - turn Noise Reduction to 'ON' in future for long exposure shots.

That is normal for the olympus e-system cameras without long exposure NR ? so many red, green and blue pixels... drewdam, how long was the exposure for ?

This is normal for all DSLRs.

What happens is that during long exposures (in excess of 3 seconds), the CCD "heats" up causing distorted pixels (as shown by the RGB dots).

Now for the life of me I cannot remember how long-exposure NR works, I think it goes along the lines of using a black reference shot... the bros who know please enlighten.

I know about long exposure noise and what it looks like on Canon and Nikon DSLRs without long exposure NR turned on, and it is no where near what I see it above (exposure times of upto about 1 minute) - seems it is different for e-system cameras.

It has to do is pixel density.

4/3 sensors have higher pixel density than most, making it more susceptible to long exposure noise (and high ISO noise).

It is one of the tradeoffs of a lighter system. However, it is easily solved by the in-camera NR, or with despeckling on your photo editing software.

Yup, nothing post processing despeckling can't handle.

And if THAT doesn't work, just pixel peep and fill it up with the appropriate colours.

I think NeatImage is available free... *i think*....

NoiseNinja does a pretty good job as well...

Personally, I do Gaussian blurring and despeckling on PS, works pretty well, but time-consuming.

Then again I avoid surgical post-processing unless absolutely necessary...

The cropped image you posted, is that 100% from a 8 MP image?

Probably not, hot pixels shine a bright green and exist in the same location in ALL photos.

If that's the case just do some pixel mapping.
