most of the photos were taken in Shutter Priority mode, it seems like some of them are overexposed (esp 3 & 7), should I use manual mode for the next SFF and what would be the best settings?

As you might be able to tell I was experimenting with different shutter speeds during yesterday's fireworks. My favourites are 2, 6 and 8, although 2 and 6 are overexposed in the sky.

    Buying a DSLR/SLR doesn't make you a photographer. It makes you a DSLR/SLR owner

Also the horizon is tilted, but that can be rectified in PS.

all are over-exposed. You should use Manual mode, start from F8, ISO100, 3-5s. Depending on the fireworks explosion. Too long exposure, you may capture too many explosion and cant see the detail of the fireworks.

hmm, my D70 is limited to ISO200 min. Can clarify what is meant by bulb for shutter?

Bulb for shutter is to use a shutter speed that is not defined by the camera. You can open the shutter for as long as you want and close it when you wish. You can keep it open by pressing the shutter release button and close shutter on release. Its available on my Canon 350D. Check ur manual for specs.

The 2s f8 is quite nice though slightly over exposed. 1-3s will be good for fireworks. Zoom closer also shot RAW format so that you can make minor adjustment later on. IMO.

F-number why open till so big? 8 to 11 would be nice. and shutter way too long IMO. 2 to 3.2sec for me.

trying out more tonight at SFF.
