Fireworks to me all this life has been some activity that takes place during special occasions and I associated it with crowds and jams. Therefore, my only experience with it were those that I get to watch over tele. They look nice and colourful as I watch them from the comfort of home.
This evening, on invited by my friend of which I initial declined, I went along to my first ever "up-close" encounter with fireworks ... LIVE! And incidently is also my first attempt at taking fireworks with my new photography hobby. As we surveyed several locations and finally settled for the one closes the launching platform. Arrived early to secure a "vantage" position; equipment set-up and undergone rigour testing and testing and confirmation. I recalled the excitement building within, the apprehension of not being able to get the right frame, not the least concerned over composure as we were located very near and without wide lens ... check ISO, Shutter and what not prolly hundreds of time as the hour draws near ... I check my watch, 3 minutes to launch time, hearts raced a little as my hands grab the shutter release . I rehearsed through my mind, to remember to use the first few shots to confirm the frame. Suddenly, a few shots were heard, I look through my view finder and was elated that they are within frames, held the shutter, ready for the next launch that came much higher then the first round ... darn, out of frame and which means I have to activate option B; which is forget about the horizon and perfect framing, get those bursts into the frame. Ballhead gets adjusted and through a few trails, learnt to vary exposure timing ... that settled, I began to really look at the display, my mouth open in awe as I admired the works of art made by mankind, the magical feeling overwhelmed me and the world, the folks around me faded into the background and all that was left was just me and the beautiful display of fireworks. Oh boy, what have I missed all this while ... the location though not perfect for photography, was perfect for someone like me, witnessing it for the first time. The magnitute felt at close range was simply fantastic! Allow me to share my first attempt at fireworks ..... 1 The moment before launch ... ![]() 2 And the beginning of a beautiful ending to a great day ... ![]() 3 ![]() Last edited by Leinaj; 9th August 2006 at 02:57 AM. |

nice angle capture...
would be better if you keep yr angle/zoom same. so that you are able to post process it to make yr background looks nicer... i like yr this angle as the fireworks are above the buildings. ![]() |

good capture, but at your location with the CBD more brighten up in the background will gives a better dimension IMO. Kind of dark now..
Alot of people there? Me most probably will be at esplanade bridge again. |
