Thread: Solve the Riddle Thread!

    Talking Solve the Riddle Thread!

    1) A policeman with his dog and a couple with her two daughters and two sons were to cross a river. However only the policeman and the couple can operate the boat. The boat can only ferry two persons at any one time. The police cannot leave his dog behind because it bities everyone when the policeman is not guarding it. The father cannot leave his sons behind because the mother will beat the sons and vice versa for the dad to his daughter. So how do they cross the river?

    2) A, B, C and D want to cross a bridge which can support 2 person at a time. Its at night and they have only one torch so two persons will go and 1 will come back with the torch for the rest. A walks 1 min, B walks 2mins, C walks 5 mins and D walks 10 mins. How do they all get to the bridge within 18 mins or below?

    3) A man died and given a chance to be reborn in heaven and hell. He wanted to choose to go heaven but the two unlabelled doors (which were Heaven and Hell) were guarded by two persons. They were extreme honest and extreme liar. Honest will answer anything honest and no lies and vice versa for Liar who answers anything untruthful. The man was given a chance to approach either guy for 1 question only which they would only answer "Yes" or "No". So what should the man ask in order go to heaven?

solve them I know u can...

Ok let me solve the 2nd question.

    A walks 1 min, B walks 2mins, C walks 5 mins and D walks 10 mins

    A + B cross = 2mins
    A return = 1 mins
    C+D cross = 10mins
    B return = 2 mins
    A+B cross = 2 mins

    Total 17 mins..

    I LOVE PUZZLES!!!!!

    1. police ferrys dog, left dog
police ferry son, left son, take back dog
father ferry other son, left son (2sons on other side now)
    mother ferry father, left father
police ferry dog, both alight, father comes back alone
    mother ferry daughter
    mother ferry daugther again
    mother goes with father

stupid family. i rather swim across.

    2. A and B go, B comes back(4min)
    C and D go, A comes back (11min)
    A and B do.(2min)
    Total time: 4+2+11=17min

    3. just ask one guy this question:"if i ask the other guy which is the way to heaven, what will he say?" just follow the opposite and you are in heaven.

Look at the bolded, the father will beat the daughter once the mother gone to other side. Moreover once the mother reached to other side, she will beat the son.. SO wrong answer..

The man can only pose a question which he only get "yes" or "no" answer from either ONE guard only and then he will decide which door to go. So read the riddle again..

    fine fine
"if i ask the other guy which is the way to heaven, will he say that heaven is this door?" fair enough? whatever door he refers to, the other is heaven. so it is a yes or no question, and i am asking only one guard.

sigh..............give you step by step instructions:
    1. go to any guard
    2. ask this question:"if i ask the other guard which door is to heaven, will he say it is your door?"
If yes, the other door is heaven.
If no, this door, whose guard you are talking to is heaven.

btw, if you dun believe me, try out some scenarios yourself. it works.

Wow.. you right.. My mistake.. I thought u saying the answer other than yes or no. Btw maybe you should rephrase your statement into one. Look like a two questions to me.. Anyway, Kudos to you! You got it!

well......let me try explaning. problem right now is that you dun know who is lying and who isn't. so the best way to do is to actually find a way to make them lie "together."
is like 1 x -1 = -1 and -1 x 1 = -1 we want to find a way that can make the result a lie. so to do that, we ask one person what the other will say, so in this case, the result would definately be a lie, like my above analogy, where you will get a negative one no matter what. so to get the right answer, we just take the opposite of the answer they give since it is a lie, sort of like -1 x -1 = 1

Actually I forgot to say that u should phrase it in one statement in the original thread. That should make it harder for you. That are also many answers to this riddle. Many...

How about doing it in one complete phrase?

Still wrong... when mother ferry daughter, she will beat the son upon arrival whereas the father is left on other side.

police & dog -----> lefts dog; police comes back
police & son -----> lefts son; police & dog come back
father & son -----> lefts son; father comes back (2 sons on the other side)
mother & father -----> lefts father; mother comes back (father & 2 sons on the other side)
police & dog -----> lefts both police & dog; father comes back (police, dog & 2 sons on the other side)
father & mother -----> lefts father; mother comes back
mother & daughter -----> lefts mother & daughter; police & dog come back (father, mother, 2 sons & one daughter on the other side)
police & daughter -----> left daughter; police comes back (father, mother, 2 sons, 2 daughters)
    police & dog -----> finished..

The thing is, when the guard is being asked, if he is the liar, would he reply the true on the other guard's reply or lie that the other guard will be telling the truth?

Hint: The purpose is not to find out who's telling the truth.... The ultimate goal is to go heaven..
