Hi, I have the Tamron 17-35 F/2.8-4, which has been a really sharp and reliable lens. The new 17-50 F/2.8 looks like a tempting upgrade, and moreover, the price is the same as a 17-35. Are there any comparisons between the 2? I can't seem to find any online.

Hmm 17-40L seems to lose out to the tamron in sharpness according to photozone's MTF tables..
furthermore, the tamron offers F2.8 and a longer range.. |

what happened to sigma 18-50? that lens rocks.(ok, focusing deadly slow on minolta 7D) but if your's a canon, it is blazing fast.

Im also deciding between Tamron17-50 and EF 17-40. Can you provide pic samples of your shots with 17-50?

dude the 17mm is the same... 17-35 got a 104 FOV becos they measured it on a fullframe/film... the 17-50 is measured based on APS size sensor..
