Default SFF aug06 from a distance

A authentic festival, this one, with lots of spectators and many, many threads too. So, me too joined in the fun with 2 humble pix, shot from a distance, at sty20, blk233 Bras Basah Cplx. Met a few photogs there and saw many families with kids.

This is one of the 3 places which I want to take the SFF this year.

Nice foreground. Also fireworks nicely captured too.

IMHO, the 1st picture looks nicer because there are more buildings/monuments to complement the fireowrks to make the scene more interesting and a little more negative space to give breathing space.

I like this place becos it is away from the maddening crowd there. Also, even parking is somewhat less of a problem too.
But not ideal becos a wee bit blocked by Marina Mandarin. Well, in live, could we ask for anything perfect?

I arrived at about 2015hr there, but took more than 15 minutes to get a parking lot. It was like 2035 when I was at the sty20. The corridor is like 80m long and there was like 4 tripods only. There is a corridor at sty 24, 20, 16, 12, ....... So pretty plenty of space for all the tripod to be opened up and more to spare.

Well, 24 or 20th, doesn't really make that much of a diff. I guess 24th could be pretty crowded as compared with lower floors. But then, you dun wanna anybody to kick your tripod legs, as there are quite a few kids around.

Thanks for the additional info.

Shooting from hot spots have its pros and cons. Pros : Near to the action and can sense the atmosphere. Cons : Have to arrive very early to get a good spot and then wait for at least a couple of hours.

Shooting from secluded spots will not have the "in the midst of the action" feel.

Sometimes, I choose a hot spot to shoot from because I want to enjoy the occassion instead of taking nice photos.

True, but from ur angle u missed a part of the full fireworks.

Anyway, have to sacrifice between choosing a good spot for photography and a spot to enjoy the fireworks. I decided to go Sheares bridge and went on video mode

Do you need a tele lens for such a shot?

Shots taken with a Tm28-75F2.8. Telezoom needed if you want to zoom in to the fireworks only, without some foreground and background. Might as well tell all my setting:

D70, Tm28-75F2.8 aperture at F13, shutter 4 to 6 sec, WB at sunlight, cam mounted on Manfrotto 055 legs and 486RC2 ballhead.

Some cropping and PP done.

You're welcomed. Hope you get great shots and dun forget to enjoy the show too. Some folks concentrate too much in shooting and forget to have fun.....
