using the stock HSF and standard kingston DDR2 ram, i am running the 2.66Ghz E6700 at 3.5Ghz now on 1400Mhz FSB, even the memory frequency is running at 1:1 too!
wow, what memory you using in your rig to achieve that?

how fast is it processing your images?

    Hi Canturn
A buyers guide for Conroe chips below for you - covers 13 different brands of memory & 8 motherboards... looks like Asus is coming out strongly in the review

I'm going down the same path as you by the looks of it... let me know which motherboard you settle on !

nothing fancy, just a pair of old Kingston DDR2-533 at default voltage running dual channel mode.

i am suprised that they can run at 1400Mhz when they are rated only at 1066Mhz, can run 3DMark and all other stress test without issue.

these dual core CPU should be able to overclock further with better cooling, better ram and more tweaking, most pple should be able to overclock a 2.66G -> 3.6G

If your needs are relatively simple - no overclocking, not looking for high end game card support etc then looks fine and certainly has a decent pedigree (being Asus). It's by no means a budget board.

Fuwell stocks it starting at 700 SGD with the E6300 to 900 SGD with E6600... http://sg.hardwarezone.com/priceguide/download.php

For next to no extra cash (20-30 SGD), I would go for ASUS P5W-DH for the 975 chipset which is slightly quicker at stock speeds according to the review I posted earlier in the thread.

    thanks bro.....looks quite good.

i will be looking to up all the way to 4gb ram which is more than enough.

any particular chipset i should be looking at?

me no gamers but heavy on PS use. sometimes, my images size goes all the way to 30-40 layers and it grows to 300-400mb per image.

so i am looking for an upgrade from my current setup..........

btw, if you are getting the AMD, get a better cooling system. mine is burning hot. my father's AMD laptop is also much much hotter than the previous intel. the best if get water cooling system, i think skylet have some pretty cheap and reliable ones there.

Hi, can I ask a stupid question? Which is better? Good board, slower chip vs Faster chip, cheaper board? Say, C2D6300/AsusP5W DH DEL vs C2D6600/Asus P5LD2? As with ProImage, I need it mainly for heavy PS work, and maybe simultaneous surfing.

If you want stability, get a good board.

My intel 930 CPU temp stays at around 30 - 34 deg at stock speed.

I was too busy to do overclocking and testing. If I got the time again, I'll certainly try it. Besides, its already good enough for most applications even games at max resolution and max quality graphics settings.

A good motherboard is important (I chose MSI cos of the after sales services of Corbell. The Asus distributer is abit problematic, has been changing distributers for awhile.). Especially for stability. You won't want it to start failing and having to keep going for RMA.

More RAM is better for image processing though, I've got 2GB of ram and wanting to get another 2GB cos according to my monitoring software, it tends to hit past 85% usage while in photoshop .

Of course, an average processor at least will be required. Maybe ard 3.0 GHz should be enough.
