weddings doesnt mean BnW only..

as for me... i prefer to stick to colour processings because weddings tend to be a more happy event rather den BNW,

BNW is more of a romantic and etc etc feelings, but i would try to keep it to a minimal level. couples want colour pictures more den BNW. thats IMHO.

well.. post more colour pictures for us....

keep it up....

hi glennyong,

i dont know how experienced you are with weddings or how much you know about the market, but....

if you like to stick to colour processed photos, you can do so. but pls do not mislead people with ur sweeping statement of "couples want colour pictures more den BNW". are you actually aware that there are couples out there who pay a photographer JUST TO SHOOT Black and Whites? These couples are singaporeans. And also there are couples who pay for a sole black and white photographer.

and another weird thing about your philosophy is that BnWs are for the "romantic and etc. etc. feelings". isnt a wedding supposed to be about love? which is supposed to be romantic? i dont think i have ever met a couple who didnt like more romance in their love life.

it is easy to capture happiness and laughter using your colour processing concept. and even easier to just use this happy scenes to tell a story of a wedding. but the real challenge would be to tell a wedding, an event of emotions, through "sad" BnWs, tears, and "old" sepia moods.

gktat1,

it is quite difficult to develop your own style. and while u can ask for comments, dont let comments like this affect you. it is absolute rubbish that BnWs are not suitable for weddings or that couples prefer more colour. shoot more. it may take 6months, 1 yr or even long to understand yourself and develop your own style. in saying so, black and whites are really difficult to master, do read up more and focus on ur technicals first. good luck!

I don't know where you got this from, but are you implying that black and white photos are not for happy occassions?

gktat1:
I think you did pretty okay, I like the last photo very much. Try to tell a more complete story next time with the photos though, from this batch I can't really tell much about the wedding or the couple.

I like colour. Some weddings look better in B&W, but I think local weddings look better in colour.... quite simply, it's a very colourful event. But whether certain shots look better in colour or B&W really depends on the colour in the shot itself. For example, if the bride wears a 'qua', you really want to catch the red in its full glory. What's so nice about a grey 'qua'? How about Indian weddings? Colour please.

Ang Mo weddings tend to look better in B&W because most of the things they use are B&W anyway...

Anyway, personal preferences aside do whatever the client wants... cos they are paying.

But the worst photographers impose their preferences on their clients... like they say that B&W is nice... romantic... etc. You know why? It's usually because those banquet shots are easier to take in B&W. The low tungsten light is very difficult to balance properly, especially when local photographers like to fire the flash so much. Then you get composite lighting. Generally tungsten lighting with pale white faces... how nice can that be? What's the solution? B&W lor...

i am no expert..
but just to point out something.. careful of the blownout whites of the bride's veil(like in the 3rd pic)

the blown out flower(i think) in the 4th pic is distracting too.. eventhough i like the 4th pic the most..

the last pic's dreamy effect is fine.. but be careful of flares..

can't see the numbering but like the last 2 pic. for the last pic, do you think it is better to have the background blur while keeping the subject sharp?

i like the composition, the tree and the couple posture, making up a storytelling picture. but i didn't like the OOF of the couple, i feel that there should be something in focus, either the main subject or a symbolic item in the foreground with the couple as the background.

i know sometimes we still love our OOF shoots that we keep it, becos it's got other good stuff but not in focus. but i still hope that i can get to shoot the same stuff again but in focus.

Actuallie the tree was in focus...but i blurred it to make the pic look a little dreamy...
To mi, each shot is diff...i might go back to the same spot, but i will try to compose it in a diff way to get a diff kinda feeling...

First pic may be better if u bend lower to get a more complete pic . Exposure dun look very even yet. Uneven exposure will be quite obvious if in colour. I personally prefer colour for this shot.

Second pic, bride face loo bright. I think u use an aperture of ard F2.8 resulting in the bride's face being blurred. Another exposure problem.

Third and fourth pic - Nice in black and white or colour

Fifth pic - I know it is intentional but the effect is not properly done and therefore, it seems to be a technical fault.
